MrsReverendBOB will love this! She just finished a black sweater with hand crocheted flowers on it. She's talking about a cross stitched baby blanket but has not yet told me who it is for.

the instructions call for using two strands of yarn side by side(?) . Which I suppose means having two skeins feeding onto the needle at the same time. Since I had only one skein, I'm simply doubling the amount of stitches per row. I've only done 8 rows so far, so we'll see how the knitted version turns out. Will one skein finish the project? If the pattern calls for two strands, I don't think doubling the stitches will work. The two strands makes the project thicker as much as it makes it bigger. If one skein is sufficient to make the project, then I would separate the skein into two--roll a ball with half the yarn then work from the skein and the ball of yarn two strands together. If you don't want to pull out what you have finished unless you have to, with eight rows finished, you should be able to check the gauge and see if you can really finish the project this way. Do you know how to check gauge? Compare the width and length of your current project with the size it would have been following the pattern. If they are close, you might be able to get away with doing it this way. If they are not, you can estimate the size of the finished project and see if you can live with it that way. If you don't like it, then there is always my suggestion above

When I have to do double-strand I usually pull one strand from the middle of the skein and the other from the outside of the skein. As long as you untwist every once in a while (usually when it starts annoying you) it works great. I actually get less tangles that way than when I try to use two separate skeins (because at least with one, you know it's just twisted in one direction and if you twist it in the opposite, it will come clear.) I would definitely start over. Generally speaking it's not really double the size when you double-strand, more like 50% to 70% bigger (depending on the size of needle and the yarn you're using). The rest of the increase goes to width-bulk, which makes it thicker and warmer.

I have done that but most of the time I get back to it (usually it's something I'm making for me but it get's interrupted with gifts for others).

I do this some, but usually I buy the yarn, then try to figure out what I can make with it...in the mean time I have an attic full of yarn--some I purchased 20 years ago, some was inherited 10 years ago... and judging from the labels, some if it had been purchased 20 years prior.... I usually finish everything at some point, but for a few things, it can take years.

I found a bunch of books at the library on rug weaving. That looks interesting to me.

When my wife feels a little better she will probably start working on a double wedding ring quilt.

Hubby and I have an... understanding. He does not question my need for more yarn, I do not question his need for more tools. Besides, with as much as we move, I need the packing material. :P Yarn makes GREAT packing material.

Hahaha I have "At Knit's End". Great book if you haven't read it. I actually have a massive cedar chest that I have stuffed most of my yarn in. The rest is in random baskets, stashed in random places. I try not to have them all together in the same place at once. ;) I got basically every yarn color of the rainbow in worsted weight because I want to get into amigurumi (crochet dolls, it's huge in Japan), and I bought a copy of "World of Knitted Toys" (from which I already knitted the tiger). hehe

And times like these I LOVE having a huge stash. I've been planning on making my daughter a little purse (since she's always picking up random things and pretending they're purses...) and, well.... cutest thing EVER! http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65106 It's a purse, that is also a stuffed horse. Time to dive into the stash! TOO CUTE!

I usually use whatever yarn I used to make the squares.
