If she has a judgment against XH, she should be able to have the court garnish his wages.

It doesn't matter why she is depressed. If she is, she may need encouragement to see her doctor and get medication, at least temporarily.

If getting more cleaning business & getting current clients to pay up is too difficult right now, regular employment might be the best thing at this time.

Has she applied for govt. assistance yet?

Peace,
Anne

Yes. She has applied for TANF and apparently qualifies to receive it.... they are saying 45 days before she actually gets a check, though. She did apply for food stamps, I hope those are soon coming -

I am trying to get her to go and qualify for medical assistance, she will most likely, even though she has some income. Her income is clearly averaged too low to meet her output responsibilities. She simply needs to work more steadily and take advantage of the programs she does qualify for. I want her to try for SSI next. I don't know if she has gone for Section 8 rent assistance, but I found the address and gave that to her.

In order to get SSI (or SSDI), she would have to stop working. (Or, as least have no income deposited into her checking account and report no income.) Then, she would have to prove that she is disabled and unable to work. The irony is that after SSI or SSDI is approved, people are allowed to earn a small amount of income each month.

Section 8 is very difficult to get. It is much easier to get a rent subsidized apartment. It does mean they would have to move, but the savings can be tremendous.

She should apply for medical assistance and also find out about energy assistance. In some areas, energy assistance can only be used for heat, other communities allow the funds to be used once a year for either heating or cooling expenses.

Peace,
Anne

I don't know about all states, but I learned here, it is better to apply for section 8 in another town where it is available or less used. This will shorten the waiting period and once she gets it, she can transfer it, to where she wants to live.

Another tatic is finding a renter who will rent to her with section 8 and go to the section 8 office and let them know she found a renter.

This quqickens the waiting list, as the old saying goes: The squeaky wheel gets the oil.....
