I am not sure the carpet would enjoy those spiked shoes...

I blame the parents for most of the things they put on kids... including t-shirts that claim, "here comes trouble" and "I only come to school to annoy you" or the "gansta" clothes. Kids can't drive themselves to the store and pay for these things.

It amazes me that they would wear shirts to school that make fun of schooling but would these kids wear shirts to church that make fun of religion? (see how I brought it back to topic )

One thing about my church...it is big with a lot of immature christians and seekers....so these things happen.

Or the 'I was good but I got bored' or 'If homework is work then when do I get paid?'

Yeah...I'm one of 'those' parents who buy those shirts for my kids.

I once bought a "Here comes trouble" outfit for my son, when he was about three, and we were traveling through Mark Twain country. He had the sweetest little personality, was not trouble at all, but in those clothes, he looked like a modern Tom Sawyer. That was the vacation I also bought him an "Ayatollah Cola gives everyone gas but Americans" shirt. But to let him wear them to church? No. That was the '70s, and we dressed up for church. He often wore tiny little suits with ties, even though such was not required by that church. My daughter and I dressed up, too.

Here's what happened back near that era in that church. They told us women we could not wear maxi skirts! Here they were, always honking about modesty, and they told us we could not wear maxi skirts? Well, I did anyway, and so did my daughter.

No! It didn't make sense! I mentioned this to my husband just now, asking him if he remembered, and he did. (He was in the same church organization but attended with his first wife in another state.)

The maxi skirt, for those who may not know, followed the mini skirt. The influence of the mini skirt had some women inching their skirts up a bit, and that church had made a rule that our skirts could not any further up than at the knee. I was young then, and not fully cooked yet, so this was what I did.

But when the maxi skirt came out, I thought, "Wow! A great skirt I can wear and be in style, yet it is fully modest!" Then the church said that. Ridiculous. The problem with that church was that they didn't liked us to pay any attention to style. Well, sorry, but that style was one to pay attention to! Smarten up, please!

Is a maxi skirt just a flowing skirt that comes to your ankles

It is to the ankles, but I wouldn't call them all flowing, Mine were all straight. Maybe a modified A-line.

And following them was the midi skirt -- just below the calf.

I wore minis and maxis. But I never wore or liked gauchos .

My mom wore midis with boots and we both wore maxis in the winter time since it just made sense to do so with it being cold.

Maybe all churches should move to the Artic.

South Florida doesn't promote modest clothing...I can tell ya...

Now that I live just five miles north of Florida, I can understand skimpy clothes. To keep sundresses out of church, just crank up the AC. It will run up the electric bill but those women will be bringing shawls and sweaters.

We take our motorcycle to church if it is not raining. I wear jeans and a t-shirt, with a large scarf to throw over my shoulders if we sit under the AC vent.

I grew up in central/southern FL and yeah...I know...but it wasn't really thought as immodest - it was just normal then.

of course...that was back in the 60-70's

My old church had a section of the parking lot for motorcycles.

Our church has a parking area for motorcycles because we have a motorcycle ministry.

Ha-ha-ha! You'll love this.
It's 1958. We're moving from an area where the average temperature year-round is 58 degrees F to Mississippi. (Okay, for those who may not know, Mississippi is commonly in the 90s in the summer, and it can be humid.) Mother is concerned about this, because the church we were in required women to wear sleeves at least to th elbow, skirts always about 6 - 12 inches longer than most other women for any given era, necks above the clavicle, and nylons with seams while in public. So she asks the pastor, "Will it be all right if I wear my sleeves above my elbows? It's so hot there!"

His answer? Just this:
"Hell's hotter."

I live in the State next door to Mississippi and sometimes I will argue with that preacher. It is hot and humid in the Southeast.

Does God really care about superficial things on our outsides? My pastor once preached in a hockey jersy... I wear flipflops, shorts and a tee shirt on Sundays. God still loves me. What do I care what people wear to Church.

Right, QTman! I remember! I lived in Jackson, MS. Because of the heat and several issues, it was a long, long time before I could even think of a positive word about MS, but with the healing the L-rd has been giving me over long years and a lot lately, I can now think and speak of many positive things about the South. The heat, however, is not one of them!

Yes, yes, yes, G-d cares! He cares deeply! If He did not, why did He have so much about clothing placed in the Bible? He cares deeply about the clothing of believers, what we do, what we say, what we eat, our relationships, and more -- which are all a part of something else He cares deeply about: our worship.

I was just wondering: is the Northwestern USA the black hole of medicine, or am I just not as gullible as I once was?

Hey! I thought I was on another thread! This does not belong here!!

Here is my not so humble opinion. Ready? It does not make one more Holy to dress in flip flops and cut offs, nor does it make one more holy in nylons, glory bun, and maxi skirt. It is just a matter of personal choice. I like to be bling ( that is me) and on Sunday mornings only ( mostly) though I do like looking nice. I sometimes dress on the down low, like now in PJ pants, I do not feel more or less holy than when in church decked in bling. BTW I do not wear Glory Buns in hair, or maxi skirts ( icky shiver), I do relate very well to those with tatoos, underarm and other body odors, I relate well to the toothless, more so than to the " Beautiful people Outward apperance only. I relate well to other blings, if they are not hateful or cliquish. Does everyone relate well to me. No, mostly other blings. So there you have it lights word of the day, now we can put it to rest. ( kidding)
