ORIGINAL: epic74 It's odd when evil is at the gate ready to destroy a family. I don't really see it so much as odd. I see it more as spiritual warfare. (Your adversary the devil prowls like a roaring lion around seeking someone to devour.) The devil has been ripping families apart and wreaking all sorts of havoc. If he can tear down the families, he can tear down the country. Our country is indeed in turmoil. Also, if he can penetrate the family (whether you directly and/or through your kids or others) then it can sometimes lead to falling from our faith or backsliding. Think about it.....both parents typically have to work (married or not), so the parents have to find someone to watch the kids while they're working. Sometimes a family member or close friend might be able to help, but often times parents send them to daycares. There's tons of kids there and they don't get the kind of supervision they really need - especially when you have groups like the ACLU that want to take away any and all religious rights we have. Then you pick the kids up, get home, and you're utterly exhausted. Then you eat, watch tv, get kids ready for bed, get them and yourself in bed, and start all over again. Add even more to that schedule if you and/or your kids are involved in extra-curricular activities. Families these days don't seem to have the quality time together as in days past. We're always sooooo busy! And they're certainly not learning about God in public schools, daycares, and the like. We have so many distractions now: tv, movies, video games, computers, ipods, etc. We get so distracted with those things, and whatever else, and we get complacent and we don't pay close attention to what's really going on around us. We fill up our days and our lives with things/activities and desensitive ourselves to the spiritual to some degree. Next thing you know, we can't pray in schools, store clerks can't tell us Merry Christmas (Happy Holidays or Seasons Greetings instead), we're giving up our right to privacy, judges are trying to force gay marriage down our throats, tv shows and movies are getting raunchier by the day, the porn industry hosting "christian" sites, etc. Moral values have been taking a nosedive in the ****per in this country. And it all seems to have happened out of nowhere. Ahhh...but we were distracted. That's another reason it's so important to really get into the Bible, to pray, and to hear from (and follow) God's guiding. The devil will pretty much leave us alone if we're not doing anything to advance God's kingdom. But when we get on fire for God and start doing what God tells us and living like we should, look out! Here comes trouble. Sorry, didn't mean to take this OT. Anyway, I don't see evil standing ready to destroy people/families as an oddity. I expect it. There's a great book called Praying the Scriptures for your Children. It basically teaches you to pray the Scriptures - it's so powerful when you can pray God's word back to Him. After all, His word does not return void. There's a chapter on protection, which I used a lot, as well as some other really good ones too. I wasn't just praying them over my children, but I was praying the over me too! I guess to get back to topic, there are some wonderful christian ladies out there that have a heart after God. It may take time to find them, but they're out there. However......it sounds like you've still got some healing to do before you offer your heart to someone again. Your pain sounds so fresh in some of the things you've said. (Climbing off my soapbox now...)
