I've asked myself this question many times, but in a much less positive way.

I guess because I, too, have an measureless amount of love to give. I am compassionate, serving, and want to have someone to share life with.

I would be the one to glow with pride and admiration as I watched him to whatever he does best, and would hopefully not steam with anger when he did something I didn't like, as I'm sure I would hope he'd do to me.

I'm not the kind to leave or stray. I'm always faithful no matter what. I may not be the prettiest flower in the bed, but I'm the perennial.

Good post John_O. A question, why do engineers generally make rotten boyfriends?

We tend to be steady, down to earth, logical type people. Most (college age) women are looking for adventure and excitement. Us engineers normally don't start off as exciting, we grow into it as the relationship goes on.

Now I can be pretty exciting (between naps) but back in college I was pretty boring.

I think engineers are great. I need someone like that to counteract my left-brain-ed-ness.

Exactly. See what I'm saying. I have typical musician brain.

And, the only problem is that I do have analytical tendencies, which is why I was great in chemistry and music theory...except for that my musician brain gets the analytical part all confused and then...dumb stuff happenz

Though I've made great strides in self-improvement the past few years, no woman is interested in dating, it seems.

I could see a woman marrying me for U.S. citizenship.

I'm sorry, but I seriously laughed out loud. No offense though...

Thanks. I was going for some humor in that as well. That woman interested in me 8 years ago was from another country...

Why would anyone marry me?

Cause I'm just so darn cute! ....had to steal that from JazzLover

Why not?

Well.....according to some men who post here I have 2 HUGE red flags.....flag #1 being that I have two kids and most men aren't interested in "instant family"..... flag #2 is that I have tattoo's .... apparently called tramp stamps in christian circles.

Jeremiah 18:1-6:

1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. 3 Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

Don't let other's bigoted assumptions define you. God takes the broken pieces of our lives and makes us new. If someone can't see beyond the past, that's their loss; it's not on you. (And perhaps they need to be reminded that the Lord commands us to forgive as we are forgiven, too.)

I'll speak out here for those christian men who don't mind tattoos. (Or instant families for that matter.) Some of us even like tattoos and have a few of our own. Keep looking, we're out there.

And those that call tattoos "tramp stamps" probably ought to do like Jesus said in Matthew 7:3-5 and remove the plank from their own eyes before looking for the speck in anothers eye.
And as Romans 3:22-24 says, "...all have sinned..." We are all humans, fallen beings. We are all damaged goods. If some one condemns another for something like tattoos, ask them what scars they carry.

Having children and tattoos are pretty weak reasons for not giving a lady consideration.

Tattoos bother me personally, but they are not deal breakers--and certainly should not be used as a way to make one's self feel superior by putting ugly names on it. Sheesh.

After reading some of the other posts...especially John's habitually hysterical diatribes...I realized that I had answered the why would someone marry me but hadn't really gone into the cons...

Like some others, I have 4 children of my own. To me, this is not a drawback: I love kids, kids love me. I would take in another 4 with joy and excitement. But I understand that my own 4 (even though they are older and two are adult) might be something a fellow would find off-putting. However, if he's the right kind of guy, it will not faze him.

I have some college debt--my son's college. Financially this might be a concern. Since I myself will enter the workforce full time as soon as I get my degree, probably it isn’t an issue.

I'm a widow. Again, like John, some might fear they would be competing with ddh...it's not true. He's certainly a big part of who I am today, but I'm a different person nine years out, and ddh is not here.

Some people might see me as too strong a woman. But that is also untrue...all you have to do is get to know me well enough. The right man will not find this a problem.

I'm fluffy. REALLY fluffy. I’ts MUCH less of a problem than one might think. Item: If you make a s’more in the microwave instead of over the campfire, and the marshmallow gets really fluffy…is it any less delicious?

There’s probably lots more…original sin, for example. I’m full up with it. But since no fellow who might be considering me is any different, that shouldn’t be a deal breaker.

I had to quote this because I'm fluffy too. I've read a lot of 'ideal girl' posts and none of them say 'fluffy'.

I'll have to remember the s'more analogy.

I can't cook, I have a child, and I have a tattoo. Wow, my prospect of finding a good Christian man is diminishing by the minute, lol. As for the tattoo, I didn't know they are called tramp stamp. I have butterfly tattoo that I got to signify my coming out of a very dark period of my life. I felt that God got through me that period and turned me into something beautiful. I would hardly call that a tramp stamp.

Ah....I still feel beautiful and worthy of love and affection from a good man. Some days I feel I don't deserve it, but on most days, I feel like, wow, God, when are you gonna bring that lucky man in my path?

I first heard that name on a sit com on TV. I agree it is derogatory. My take on tatoos is what is the person trying to say with the tatoo. If it is a skull with a knife sticking out of the head or something like that then what is the message the person is giving? But if it is something positive then I am fine with it.

Back to the question of Why would someone not want to marry me.

I am in my 50's and have never been married. That raises all kinds of red flags with people.

I can see no reason why it wouldn't. Guys are always wondering how to tell when we're interested in them, right? That ought to clear things right up.
