Exactly, GNM. How exactly does one quantify spirituality?

ORIGINAL: BugLady Exactly, GNM. How exactly does one quantify spirituality? We can't!! And I don't think that God does, either. We can measure if a person reads their bible more often or attends church more often, but we can't quantify the heart. Also, what if one person is very generous and loves God with her whole heart but doesn't read the Bible every day? Does that make her less spiritual than someone who reads her Bible several hours a day?

I've always figured trying to quantify one's spirituality would require comparisons with others... something we're instructed not to do.

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? (2Co 6:14-15)

You can never be too old to get married but you can be too young. Marry not out of want but out of love. Mature and wise woman are hard to find, and if you had married young, then you would not be mature and wise. You situation is a blessing not a curse, both to you and the world. The world need more good women. There is just not enough of them around. Wine is all the more better when it is kept in the bottle and allowed to mature, better and more valuable. Thank you. I know it is not a curse. There are many times when I am amazed at what God has done and continues to do in my life, especially now that I have a totally new direction I'm heading. He's in control, and that's all I desire, period. With all that He's called me to do, being married or even being in a relationship is virtually impossible. I only want His best and what brings Him the most glory.

No. It's creepy either way. Edit to add: It's also pretty arrogant, IMHO.

ORIGINAL: Godhead Only if she finds out That's called deception and manipulation. And I wouldn't want a man who does that. The way you have worded your comments could lead one to infer that your motivation to do such an investigation arises out of fear, rather than from a desire to indeed "find her faithful" to Christ. From what I remember about you --- you don't want to be such a man, Godhead. That is, you don't want to be one who operates out of a place of fear. So... I hope you were speaking largely in jest! (As the winky face would suggest.) I would rather know that he is talking to the people who really know me: my family, my closest friends, my co-workers, my spiritual mentors. A man who checked into who I am... as he is getting to know me for himself... and did so openly... in my book, would be an honorable, respectable man of integrity. A man who carefully considers his decision making and the process of making that decision. One who is neither cautious to the point of paralysis nor is rash. I hope that I am to a point in my maturing as a human and as a Christ-follower --- by the power, grace, mercy, love, and blood of Christ --- that I would do the same sort of character evaluation and investigation of the man who pursues me for the purpose of marriage. That he would welcome such an endeavor on my part... that I would have a high estimation in his view, because he finds that I evidence true wisdom. Thus, I agree with you --- if a man or woman has made good use of the time* he/she has been unmarried to mature in God's wisdom (not the world's), then the time of "delay" has been well worth it. May we redeem the time and redeem it well. * Reminds me of the comment in the book Jane Eyre (by Charlotte Brontë) that Jane Eyre makes to Mr. Rochester about his superiority to her b/c he is older than she. (At the time of their conversation, Jane is 18, and Rochester is 36. And he proposes that his being older than her gives him the right to "be a bit masterful" in the way he communicates with her.) Her point is that his having been alive longer than she is to his advantage (and ultimately, to her benefit) only if he has spent that time living righteously and growing in righteousness. And he freely admits that he has vastly misused the time given him in life and thus cannot claim any superiority to her on that score. Ultimately, she says that he may put aside formal conventions of conversation and "be a bit masterful with her," as he describes it --- but not put aside respectfulness in conversation --- because he, her "employer," is concerned with her contentment in her employment situation, treating her not as an underling but as an equal...a fellow human being.

Why would anyone marry you? I ask myself this all the time? quote:
ORIGINAL: humbleinspirit And I will repeat, why not? My quick answer is because I'm over 40, fat & have two kids. I have full custody of my two kids which makes me, what has been labeled, as a "package deal". I have some very good qualities; a deep and abiding faith grounded in Jesus, generosity, warmth, sweetness, compassion, humor and I'm tattoo free! ( See my humor?! ) But I'm gonna bottom line it - I'm just not that interesting. Well Teaspoon, all I have to say is never underestimate what God might have in store for you. Somewhere along the line I missed this post. In fact this sounds just like my sister! She tells me this all the time. I don't "uderstimate what God might have in store for me." Because His' word promises he has only the best in store for me. It's just that right now, 5 years after my divorce, I'm just now begining to think about re-marriage. And in fact I have more questions in my life right now than answers.
