The father of the Fanilows turns 65 today...and doesn't look a day over 40. LOL

I don't like him personally but he has so much influence in music through songwriting its hard to avoid him. "I am stuck on bandaids", lol, he wrote that jingle.

You just can't hate Barry Manilow, because he writes the songs that make the whole world sing! But he didn't write the one you just quoted. One of my personal favorite ironies. I like Barry though, happy birthday. BTW: The first piece of music I remember owning was an LP (vinyl) of Barry Manilow "Live!".

Barry manilow took "easy listening" music to new heights of mediocrity, not an easy task in a field chock full of such notables such as seals & crofts, Air supply, and Gilbert o'sullivan..........God bless him.

I must admit a soft spot for the man when he first hit - it didn't hurt his case with me that I had a crush on a girl named Mandy when that song was all over the radio. However, by the time "It's A Miracle" came out, my buds and I were on to him and we went back to our Sabbath and Zeppelin. We often called him "Barely Man-enough". Kids can be so mean. Anyway, happy b-day, Barry. Anyone who could put up with Bette Midler as long as you did deserves a thumbs-up.

Barry taught me a major 7 progression, it changed the way that I write music!!!! (from the song "daybreak")

WOW, 65 Years old? He's is about as old as Paul McCartney and Mic Jagger as well! He has had a few upbeat tunes, all which I have found to be good.

He has written a lot. DW used to have his live album that had a medly of all his commercial jingles he wrote before becoming a hit. Amazing. In honor of his BD I would like to share a few lyrics of my fave BM knock-off by Ray Stevens: I Need Your Help Barry Manilow My shrink is out of town, my love life is a joke My ex-wife sold my diary to Rona All my ashtrays are overflowed, and I don't even smoke And my sinuses came back from Arizona... (Spoken) "Hello, Mandy? It's me. I'm here at the Copa. You know, the Copacabana. I know I don't write the songs that make the whole world sing but I do know one thing, Mandy... I can't smile without you.... Forget Lola.... Remember that weekend in New England? I thought then that this could be the magic at last... Now here I am... Tryin' to get the feelin' again!" I need your help, Barry Manilow I'm all alone and sitting on a shelf Sing me a song, sing it sad and low I feel like feeling sorry for myself

I share his birthday. :) I actually used to love him when I was younger. I still like his older music but rarely listen to it. He does have a fantabulous voice!

Now that Ray Stevens parody of We Need Your Help Barry Manilow is really funny! Barry Manilow did his own parody of himself back in the late 70's called "This Is The Last Duet" with Lily Tomlin. That one was pretty good too!

Just for the record, Barry did not write the song, "Mandy." A song writer named Scott English wrote the tune in the 60's, then he (Manilow) put it into prominence in the 70's and made it a million seller. Even though his music is considered "cheezy," thank God he's still around to influence a new generation. Always apperciate our legends because if it was not for them, music would not be the way it is today.
