The court does not interfere with ordinary parents disciplining their children by grounding or many considerably harsher punishments.

The court was moderating a father's choice of discipline in order to uphold a mother's right to parent too.

There has not (to my knowledge) ever been an incident of the court moderating a punishment simply because it seemed too harsh. A judge couldn't do that if they wanted to. It would be illegal.

The man is not 'in trouble with the law' he is just required to abide by the compromise parenting style that has been mandated in his case with his ex-wife.

Even in the other article, it doesn't say it was the mother who requested the hearing. It *sounds* like the 12 year old daughter did. The article also mentions that this followed a "rue" (fight) with her step mom (in other words...her dad's current wife). Definitely interesting....
