So what do you think of the chain letters that load up our email boxes claiming that we will be 'blessed' IF we FORWARD them. How do you repsond, if at all? Do you forward?

I seem to get them from non-believers and I choose not to forward them. Lately, I don't even read them.

Hi Stronger2day,

If you get these e-mails from non-believers you should praise God. Who knows ... maybe ... perhaps ... there's a small seed there which with prayers may grow further.

I normally pass on the good ones - but I delete the bit that says "Pass it on to 7 friends and something good will happen".

My logic: who knows, perhaps by passing on a good Christian email a non-believer may have second thoughts. And how great that would be for one sinner who repents! I bet the angels in Heaven will be sending the email in question to each other adding "this is the email that did it for that un-believer".

Largely ignore their implied 'threats'. If one peaks my interest(rarely)I usually forward just the portion of significance(to me) without their 'threat'.

Hi mvic,

Thanks for responding. I can see what you are saying about planting a seed, but do you feel the emails may be misleading- giving the appearance that passing emails is an easy (though false) route to heaven? I would be concerned that someone may take them that way.

As soon as I figure out that they are chain letters I delete them.

Hi Stonger2Day,

I see your point. Passing emails is of course not an easy route, or any route, to Heaven. But some emails or devotionals I get (some from organisations like CrossDaily) are so good that I believe the message therein can/should be passed on, to believers and non-believers alike.

There's always the chance, slim as it may be, that a non-believer may become interested in Christianity through these emails/devotionals.

These emails often carry a Christian message appropriate to modern times when Christianity is either mocked or ignored as a fad. To delete them would be a shame. To send them to committed Christians would be good but preaching to the converted as it were. But sending them to my non-believers friends would have one of two reactions:

Either they'll think I'm a religious nut. That's OK by me.

Or maybe, it will spark an interest in them. Hopefully.

They are usually silly and based upon superstition rather than the Bible. On rare occasion, I will get one that is interesting, cute, or funny -- but very rarely, like once in a year or two. When I do, I take off the silliness at the bottom and forward it to someone I think will truly enjoy it -- usually one person, maybe two.

Most of the time, however, I don't even open them.

Or they could get thoroughly annoyed and not want to listen to anything you say. I'd rather share from my heart than annoy non-believers with cheeky emails that tell you, you are a bad Christian if you don't forward mindless drivel...

I delete them most of the time without even reading them. I'd rather spend time reading the Word for myself and it accomplishes more too

Although they contain nice 'sentiments' - the fact remains that anything that motivates us to 'fear' is not Godly. Many (not all) people believe that if they don't forward them on that something bad will happen! This 'fear' factor does not come from God and has it's roots in superstition.

It is a shame that something which could be encouraging has been 'hijacked' by satanic influences.

As has been said already on this thread - the DELETE key is a good friend when it comes to any kind of chain letters (even those which go under the banner of 'Christian').

OK ... let's focus everyone!

Are we talking about the same thing?

Some of the devotionals I get from CrossDaily (and others) are really very good. I'm sure they won't be happy to have their work described as "silly", "superstitions" and "mindless drivel".

Do CrossDaily use Christian Chain letters themselves?

I love the ones that end with something like "If this was a joke, you'd send it to everyone in your address book. Since this is about God how many people do you have the guts to send it to?" Sorry, my guts just hit the delete key.

"If you send this out to 7 people, by this time tomorrow your prayer will be answered. It worked for me, I know it'll work for you too. Just try it." I tried it, now where's my Porsche?!

Some of them do have some nuggets of gold in them, but you have to get through a lot of fool's gold to get to them.

Hi Little_1,

Not chain letters. But if you're a member of CrossDaily you get some very good emails. Well worth passing on.

I agree that chain letters saying: pass this on to 7 friends and a miracle will happen are a modern electronic nuisance. See my post No. 5 and 12.

I agree with DenimDiva. All I asked for was a Ferrari.
