and a guy wearing a purity ring couldn't get hurt how? they're just as vulnerable as girls are in that sense. wicked men don't always look for girls...i know that sounds gross, and it is, but it's the truth. i don't think it's more dangerous for a girl to be wearing a purity ring than it is for a guy. there are plenty of sick and twisted people out there wanting to take advantage of anyone, male or female. the benefits of wearing a purity ring definitely out number the disadvantages or risks that you're implying exist.
Do you know that it says in scripture that women are the weaker vessel? That means physically too. A man can defend himself, a woman cannot. It is MUCH harder for a woman to defend herself than it is for a man. Men have a LOT more physical strength than women.
I agree the benefits outweigh the risks. But you can't think of it as some magical tool either.
I know of the statistics about STD's and those who pledged their virginity and those who didn't. I am not ignorant of that fact. But, there are still risks, but yes the benefits outweigh them, considering it is a tangible reminder to yourself that you are to stay pure.
But I do not believe purity rings are to be a substitute for good pareting when it comes to sex education. Do your parents regularly bring up the topic of sex and do they talk to you about the godly way of sexuality regularly? Because some parents think once their children have these rings they don't need to bring up the topic of sex anymore. That I believe is wrong.

Believe my parents don't avoid the subject just because I have a purity ring. They bring it up very often especially since my sister has a bf who she is very tight with. Then of course they drag me into the convo somehow.

well the ring itself isn't your purity. Its a physical reminder of a commitment you made to stay pure and a testimony to those who see it. Like a wedding ring, its not the ring that makes it true--- its a reminder.

When it comes to your purity, its not something you're just going to forget.
You might get a tracking device for whenever you forget where your keys are, yes. But something that is special to you, you won't forget.

okay.
so i'm not against them.
i just dont think everyone needs them.
for some its a visual reminder.
others its to in away boost. (atleast that is how i see it)
or some just think there cool.
Masters Commison does them in a way.
they make a covenent (thats what i think they call it there).
with God to fallow him for a whole year.
and not to let other ppl or other htings get in there way of worshiping Him.
but i say.
what ever floats your boat.
wear one or not.
as long as you keep your self in check.

A wedding ring doesn't define a commitment. I am commited to Mandy with my entire life, yet, she doesn't have a materialistic object that reminds her that I'm commited to her (she does have a necklace, though  ), she has a heart that signifies that. That's where a commitment is sealed.

But yeah, I totally agree with that. I'm not against purity rings, but I don't think it should be a reminder of "STAY PURE". Thats up to your mind & heart. A materialistic thing doesn't cut it.

i agree. but also your relationship between you and God is intimate and personal and its unique. some people may need a purity ring at first in their relationship with God because they have a serious trouble lusting and fall into temptation. so some people may need that. but also again, some people may completely not need it at all.

The purpose of a purity ring in my point of view is a sign of a covenant between you and God. It symbolizes your decision to remain pure. Is anyone here against Christian t-shirts because there are other ways to remind yourself of your relationship with God. Just like Christian t-shirts purity rings can be used as an icebreaker to witness to people like kyangel and eternal gamer have said. Another aspect that I like about purity rings is that when people found out I am living pure some pressure is taken off. Everyone is extremely supportive although some other guys will toss jokes around here and there, the girls even if they chose not to remain pure respect my decision.

I wouldn't say for or against... but I kinda think it's important that the wearer is the one who initiates getting one. Although I guess if your parents picked one out for you and that reminded you of things you've discussed together that'd be good, too. Plus, it might make a good conversation starter with the person you're interested in dating/courting/whatever-- or, (always fun), the non-Christian who's interested in dating you! :)

As of yesterday I have recieved my purity ring and I must say it gives me some kinda hope for my future.....hard to explain but it just feels right.

I found out that I was one of three virgins in my senior english class of 30. I was too shocked at the statistics to yell at anyone.
