The chills I got from the Not Fade Away/She's The One medley have remained with me ever since. I have a pretty decent vinyl bootleg from that tour - not the show I saw, but three nights later. Hope to pick up a CD boot from that tour some day, or maybe Columbia will do for Darkness what they did for Born to Run and put out a Deluxe version with a concert DVD. (A guy can dream, can't he?) It really was something.

And yes, Springsteen is the best show I've ever seen, bar none. I saw him in 1980, The River tour. 4-1/2 hours long and packed with all kinds of goodies. The version of "Merry Christmas Baby" you hear every year is from the show I was at. I'm the one yelling Bruuuuuce.

I forgot about The Animals' remake of Bob Dylan's "House of the Rising Sun". and yes, I do like the Aerosmith "Come Together" better than the original.

I heard a remake this morning of Smoky Robinson's song "Tears of a Clown" by The English Beat! Ska! That means white boys trying to sound like Bob Marley!

I told my wife just last season when we heard it on the radio - "I know that guy!" Actually, that would make an interesting thread in itself - "What live album(s) are you on?" Probably get some cool answers.

Now you're reaching, Mike. You could list every song ever performed on Broadway with that kind of thinking.

Well the Steve Martin song was an after thought.

ORIGINAL: humbleinspirit Well the Steve Martin song was an after thought. If I recall Steve is quite the banjo player himself! And I must admit that his rendition of Clouseau in the Pink Panther blew Peter Sellars' performance away. Much funnier! But that's for another remake thread in a different section!

I heard "Lords of the New Church"'s version of Madonna's "Like a Virgin". Stiv Bators voice is dripping with sarcasm as he sings it. The only one that does a better job with that song is Weird Al.

ORIGINAL: stellaluna Snake River Conspiracy has a great cover of The Smiths' "How Soon is Now." Except that no one knows who Snake River Conspiracy is. I know who they are and have their Sonic Jihad CD and the Vulcan EP. However, I don't think their cover really does the song much justice. There have been umpteen hundred covers of that song and pretty much all of them fall short...in my opinion anyway. It's rare that I like covers, but I do like the following: Nine Inch Nails - Dead Souls (Joy Division) The 77s - Over Under Sideways Down (The Yardbirds) The 77s - Shotgun Angel (Daniel Amos) Fiona Apple - Across the Universe (The Beatles) Erasure - Solsbury Hill (Peter Gabriel) Fleming and John - Harder to Believe Than Not To (Steve Taylor) Johnny Cash - Hurt (Nine Inch Nails) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Search and Destroy (The Stooges) Foo Fighters - Baker Street (Gerry Rafferty)

Haven't played it in a while, but remember enjoying it very much when it came out. I have a Universal Records promo Christmas sampler that has Fleming and John combining Zep's "Misty Mountain Hop" with "Winter Wonderland". The ultumate holiday cover for me. That Steve Taylor tribute album (I Predict a Clone) is worth searching for - tons of good ST covers.

Molly Hatchet did Dreams by The Allman Brothers and it was just as good. I like Anberlin's version of Enter the Silence by Depeche Mode.

With this I do have a list of remakes that to me sounded better than the original. For me it would have to be: Enjoy The Silence from Lacuna Coil (originally done by Depeche Mode) but I love the original version to. Summernight City from Therion (and I am not an Abba fan so this was a given) Egypt the Chains Are On from Doro Pesch (Dio) Johnny B Good from Judas Priest (Chuck Berry) War Pigs from Overkill (thrashy version of a Black Sabbath classic) Electric Eye from Primal Fear (the singer for Primal Fear can actully hit higher than Halford) All The Young Dudes from Bruce Dickinson (David Bowie) Blue Monday from Orgy (New Order) Cars from Fear Factory (Gary Numan) Down in the Park from Foo Fighters (Gary Numan) Anarchy in th UK from Megadeth (Sex Pistols, and I hate that band) White Wedding from Murderdolls (Billy Idol) the list can go on and on
