Just curious, doer. Why cite Tit 1:15? How does it fit into this discussion?

"so it involves deception" that is a verse that is a response to your question. I thought it fit pretty good because you get what you are looking for. and if you are looking for the good in things, that is what you will find.

when someone loses their ability to find "the good", in someone else, or something; their ability to understand follows close behind. God is sooooo good at fixing that.
but I learned that IRL, not at CW

I still don't follow. You've alluded to gaining additional info about posters with the use of "tips" and techniques given you by other posters. That implies that you are seeking out this additional info without the poster's knowledge. Once you've gathered that info do you then seek out the poster and tell them what you've learned?

I believe it's embarassed, one r.

No, it's two "r"s. One of those weird words with two sets of double letters -- embarrassed.

I have learned to be very, very careful of what I write and how I write it. People form impressions of you based on your written words and what you disclose about yourself. While I believe "transparency" is a desireable quality for people to have, in an "anonymous" forums environment, too much transparency can be potentially dangerous. I'm careful not to say anything here I wouldn't want repeated on the nightly news or in front of the whole church.

I agree with you on this completely, but I think I've put my foot in my mouth a few times anyways. I do find myself wanting to be more transparent and get feedback with things I'm struggling with here though, but I definitely agree - I don't want to tell my life story here either. Since nobody does know me I can't see anything that I post getting back to my church, unless of course I end up telling someone I post here and they ask me what my name is - Doh!. At times this forum feels like a type of free therapy for me. Hopefully, I didn't just put the old foot in the mouth again with that statement, but hey it's the truth.

I have learned what threads I should stay out of...I don't always stay out but I get tired of repeating myself.

*cough*drinking alcohol*cough*

I've learned that some people truly are who the represent online. I've been fortunate enough to meet people from the world wide web, and while they weren't deceptive about themselves, they weren't who they portrayed themselves.

Like, this one guy I met was very quirky, very quick on his feet, very obnoxious at times, but IRL, he was quiet, soft spoken, polite, and just an all around nice guy to hang with. So he was nothing like I expected.

However, the people I've met on CW are pretty much who they are online. I got to know them better, but pretty much what you see is what you get.

Okay Kuku...you have me wondering if you think my user name fits me or not.

No. You don't. It's someone on my exboyfriend's site. His best friend actually. A completely different person IRL than online.

I can relate. I've "teeter-tottered" between how much I should disclose here (and I've shared some very personal things about myself in some of these posts btw, lol). I guess I've erred on the side of disclosure because #1 - I know a lot of people are in the same boat and I am not alone no matter what the issue is. Whether they'll feel comfortable enough to acknowledge that online is a different story. #2 - Perhaps something I share will help someone else who is struggling with that same issue but may be too ashamed to talk about it. #3 - I'm secure in who I am as a person good, bad, or indifferent so I am not paralyzed by what people think of me. That's not to say that I am not concerned because I am very concerned about how I come across on these boards. I continue to learn new things about myself that I need to work on and some of that has been exposed through this forum.

Ya know, I didn't, until I saw how you dress... the two of you are SO similar in that regard... , but until besiderself learns to be in two places as once, she'd have a hard time living up to hers... but that's Ok, cuz I'm not a lot like mine either...

Leastwise, not in a bad way...

I have learned that some people's screennames describe them well, while for others, I just tell myself 'wishful thinking'

You must be talking about me, because I'm not a real bug- I only wish I were.

Lets see, forums has really helped me be comfortable talking to women. It has also showed me that I can be a man of God and some women actually do find me appealing, which helps my confidence.

I have learned not to argue with trolls, or anyone who has a set agenda on something, because no matter how much you try, you will not change their mind, and might get really upset also. It is best just to walk away instead.

I learned that there are a lot of genuinely real and fun people here, all with our own quirks. That people really do care for one another, pray for one another, support one another, etc.

Those are just a couple of things that I have learned anyway.
