I haven't seen anymore than 5 minutes of it and I noticed two almost immediately. imdb.com and pluggedinonline's reviews say about the same thing on language.
dwtramm, as far as telling your family to wait, are you talking about children? I have heard from many places this isn't a movie suitable for children. As far as cursing goes, I can understand your point of view on language but I am not that strict on it. Taking the Lord's name in vain is an entirely different thing than using another type of profanity. In my opinion, the other are just words with negative connotations; the Lord's name/title being used in vain is the only one that has real meaning. That being said I do sometimes avoid movies, music, etc. for the language even if it is not taking the Lord's name in vain. As far as those go they are really gut instinct, the misuse of the Lord's name is more conviction. You might want to check out ClearPlay DVD players, they have custom filters for different movies and don't have to mute entire sentences and replace them with subtitles (they just mute the specific word).

I have a 16 year old and a 14 year old.
I have TV Guardian, which was worth the money. I have it on strict so it mutes all cursing, plus any reference to God or Jesus. You can't watch Christian television because a lot of it is muted, unless you change the setting to medium or mild.
It catches about 90 percent of the language on TV, Video, and DVD.
Only thing, it won't catch any Universal movies. Universal did something to prevent TV Guardian from working.

I hope this isn't too off-topic, but how much more attention do these devices call to the cursing than do the curses themselves? Many people here, myself included, didn't even notice any of the curse words in the Dark Knight. I guarantee that if the sound had suddenly been muted for each vulgarity, I would have noticed it, remembered it, and would have known exactly what was said. Given that, what's the point?

I have a answer for this. We've had it for about, oh 10 years or so now. When we first got it, it was bothersome and I even caught myself trying to read the lips of the person muted to see what they were saying. Then I recognized that this defeated the purpose.
It came to a point though that we don't even notice it, truthfully. We are use to it.
By the say, it just doesn't mute the language, but it replaces it with another word in the close caption writing.
Getting it was decision that my wife and I made, and I don't expect everyone to make this decision, it was just a personal one.
While the language didn't bother me greatly because working in the workforce at the time I heard it all day, it greatly affected my wife. So we prayed about it, changed some habits, saw the TV Guardian in a Christian bookstore and decided to purchase it and try it out. We've enjoyed it ever sense.
But I'm not expecting everyone making the same decision, this was just an individual choice that we made as a family.
Well, back to topic, I did enjoy the Dark Knight.

TVGuardians are no longer on sale or else I would consider buying one for my TV. They lost their hardware manufacturer so they can't make the boxes without finding another one. Right now they are limited to DVD players and I think they are trying to get cable and satellite providers to include it as a service.

I hope they do. I hate language as well. It is so disturbing when I am watching on of my favorite shows when someone starts using language especially if front of my little one. I would get that.

I just saw this over the weekend. I loved it ^_^ Mostly cause of the Joker. I never liked a movie Heathe was in but he was great in this IMO. Overall, yes the best Batman movie as far as story and all but I still think I prefer Batman Returns. The gothic atmosphere is so lacking in these new ones >.< Oh one thing that bugged me in this movie... everyone raves about how true to the comics and how grounded in reality these are but they really messed up with Two-Face >.< The movies up till this part have been so grounded in reality and all that his unblinking white eye stuck out like a sore thumb. Sure it looked cool but it was extremely distracting. That thing would have dried up if it even worked after that accident. In a more cartoonish feeling movie (burtons batmans even), this would have worked but not here.

I finally saw the movie and realised that my boys will probably get it when it comes out on DVD, but the only concern I had was that they wouldn't completely understand the psychological battles going on between the Joker and Batman.
Many people have pointed out the blantant lines of good vs. evil but I really didn't see that as everyone was battling his or her own demons. I felt the lines were more blurred than normal, kind of like Jumper.
The action scenes were great, Heath Ledger was great but not Oscar material IMO. Maggie Gyllenhaal was a better Rachel then Katie Holmes was.
I love how much better Gary Oldman was in this movie. He was kind of whimpy in the first one and this one he really let John Gordon shine.
All in all, it's a good movie.
Would I recommend it for children? Probably not. It's too much of a mental movie IMO.

I saw The Dark Knight and overall thought it was good. But I still think that Batman Begins is better. I thought that the dialog in The Dark Knight was lacking. Then I noticed why that was, it was because David Goyer didn't write the screenplay. The language, I really didn't notice much but from the level of violence I can see where people would think it could be too much for children. What I didn't like about The Dark Knight was that they gave the best dialog to The Joker as if the wole intention was to upstage Christian Bale, when in my opinion Bale is a far superior actor and deserved better lines.

Most of them aren't curse words, but rather things like, "oh my God", "swear to God", or "Jesus".
Some might consider that offensive.

I find it amazing today that we are more concerned with "curse" words and yet do not have a problem sitting though a movie that misuses the Name above all names. Why are we more concerned with curse words in a movie and could care less about misusing God's name only considering it a possibility that it might be offensive. It should be the greatest offense to Christians to hear or use the Name of our Eternal God used in any other fashion than worship and praise and adoration.

Actually curse words don't bother me in the least. Misusing Jesus or Christ on the other hand is a different matter. As for "Oh my God"... I don't know... not really Gods name...
But I do find it funny how people in general like to pick and chose which is ok. A co-worker and Christian wanted to sell the fourth Rambo movie cause it had a bunch of swearing in it and he didn't want that in his house... I guess the excessive violence and rape or whatever that scene was didn't bother him...

That reminds me a of a line from South Park The Movie. " Just remember what the MPAA says. Horrific deplorable violence is ok, just as long as their is no naughty words."
On a side note, I for one loved the 4th Rambo movie.
