ORIGINAL: slimon11 I was listening to Beth Moore earlier today... She said that since healing takes effort, we don't always do it for ourselves. However, we need to do what is takes so that others don't get the 2nd hand effects of our abuse. If we don't keep on the path to healing for ourlseves we need to do it for God and for our "offspring." If we don't have childern of our own, we still have "spiritual offspring" to be thinking about... Oh, this is a good point, Slimon. Dr. Laura has said that everyone has two chances at childhood: when they are kids and when they have kids. As a kid, I looked at my family and decided if I ever had any kids they would NOT grow up like I did. That was rather presumptuous, but God has blessed, and my kid has had a totally different upbringing. She has known the Lord from a young age and has had her parents' love, attention and training. By God's grace and not my own, she is a fine Christian young lady. I am thrilled out of my socks. Thank You, Jesus, for your faithfulness to me, my husband and our dear daughter! May my daughter's life adorn Your Gospel all her life!

ORIGINAL: Kat_D I was severely abused as a child and I can tell you it is your anger that keeps you stuck and prevents you from growing in your life and relationships. Let it go. You have no choice, as a Christian, you must forgive your parents as Christ forgave you, but by remaining angry you stay in bondage to the abuse. Chose today not to remain a victim. Turn it all over to God...He will take it and make something beautiful of your life. You are a new creature in Christ...choose to live like one. 12 "Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, 13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed. 14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: 15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled..." -Hebrews 12 Wow! That's an awesome answer. I have a lot of anger towards my Dad who abused me. And it's making me unable to forgive. And like you said, it is making me stay in bondage of the abuse. Again, what an awesome answer!! :) I know I definitely need to work on that. Yup- Kat gives a lot of awesome answers like that!
