I'm a bad baker. Does that mean we can disregard any review I give on a recipe that contains flour and sugar or flour and yeast?

Any way is fine. Just cook away. I would however cook recipes you haven't tried since it's a "challenge".

Maybe we should team up so we'll counteract our biases?

Hmmm, my husband and kids used to know when I got "bored" with cooking my usual dinners - I'd get out one of my cookbooks and start looking for things I'd never made! We'd have a few weeks of all kinds of "new" dinners, lol. Not so easy to do now that I live by myself (most recipies are't written for "one" ) , but I'll be interested to check in on you guys and see how you are doing!

Can you edit the OP with the "rules" so those joining late us can understand right off?

True! Well maybe I'll try to chime in now and then. I do love to cook...

HSGM -- I'm cooking for one, also, so you can join me in the challenge. If we lived closer, we could share meals.

Now that would be a good idea! Too bad we can't.

I'm cooking for two and most of the time I have to amend a recipe or freeze part of it or divide the final product into two smaller containers and cook one days later. It sure saves on cooking time!! I've got it all down to a fine science... when I don't make a mistake. My last goof was combining the recipe ingredients off facing pages. It's in a grilling cookbook and I sure was lucky they were both Thai-like. Of course, if they had been vastly different I probably would have realized my mistake by questioning the ingredients.

Oh, I like the two recipes from each book idea. I could totally go for that. I think it should be two recipes not previously tried, though.

I wonder who will get there first recipe cooked first? lol

I have to transport some kitchen stuff to the new apartment (where FH and I will live after married) before I can start. I would rather cook it there. We'll see.

I was just thinking about this thread... I don't think I'll be first. I'm fighting off a cold today. But I did spend some time looking through a few of my cookbooks. There are a couple of cajun recipes that look good but there are four books that will be primary for me because they're healthy. But I'm in the mood to try tropical food, so my first recipe will probably be the Jerk Chicken Salad I found in the Pampered Chef Season's Best recipe collection.

Well, do we have to start over if we have already used some books a million times over? If that is the case, then I have alot of cooking and baking to do, but if not, I am already done.

I'd say no, just make two recipes you haven't made before out of it. I've got one I've used a lot and that's my plan. I am sure I can find two I haven't made in that book.

Yup, go right ahead and post ahead. Be creative.

Some of us are probably still planning the first one. Ha

I'm doing that right now. I've chosen one recipe, but can't find another that looks good, that I think dh wouln't turn his nose up at, and that I haven't previously made. I've found one or two that I could amend a bit, but that doesn't seem right for this challenge. I may chose whole grain noodles over white noodles, but my changes won't go beyond that. When I decide, I'm going to go to the store and get ingredients for those two dishes along with my milk and eggs.

I'm glad you chose two recipes from the entire cookbook and not from each section... I'm having a hard time just finding two new ones.

I am still trying to find a recipe that includes ground turkey that sounds tasty and that I haven't eaten before, lol.

I got a bunch on sale. I will cook some of it up to save until fall when I can make lentil chili with it, but I want to do something with some of it for now. Turkey loaf doesn't sound great to me, so I am still looking.

Ooh, do I get to post the first recipe?

I'm actually not finished eating, but here goes:

I pulled out the Season's Best recipe collection booklet from Pampered Chef... Last Spring/Summer, the theme was "Taste of the Tropics". So I decided to try Jerk Chicken Salad.

First stop was the grocery store for a few things, then to the produce stand for the lettuce, pineapple, and green onions. When I got home, I pulled the chicken out of the freezer to thaw, and put the wine in the refrigerator.

When the chicken was done, I mixed 1 tbsp Jerk seasoning with 1 tbsp olive oil and coated the chicken. Next, I sliced 1/2 of the pineapple. I cooked the chicken on the cast iron grill, then grilled the pineapple slices for 1 minute each side. Then I cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces.

Next, I made the dressing... juice of two limes, zest of 1/2 lime, 1/3 cup light mayonnaise, and apricot preserves (it called for pineapple preserves, but I needed apricots for something else, so I improvised.)

I chopped 1 red bell pepper, sliced 3 green onions, drained a can of black beans, and chopped a head of romaine lettuce.

Now to put it together, I put one large romaine lettuce leaf on the plate, then layered the chopped lettuce, red bell pepper, green onion, chicken, and pineapple, and drizzled 1 tbsp dressing.

It's delicious, but a lot of work (at least the first time around, anyway). I will try it again sometime... it's a very elegant salad.

Tomorrow I plan to try another recipe with mostly the things I have on hand so I don't feel like I over-spent on just one salad.

I've got a bajillion cookbooks, plus being a Pampered Chef lady, I get sent a bunch of new recipes every other month. I've divided my recipes into two categories: Hubby and I, and family friendly. Our sons all have horrible food allergies, so anything we serve the kids has to be dairy, soy, chocolate, peanut, and dye free. Whenever we get rid of them for a weekend or longer, I pull out the "other" recipes and dh and I enjoy a meal we haven't had the opportunity to indulge in for quite a while.

I'll bookmark this thread, and as I'm going through my recipes, I'll post them and let you know how they turned out (although we're really easy going here ... all of our kids like everything -- including liver, onions and Brussels sprouts!)

When I first started reading this thread I thought "oh no, I could never make it through my 2001 Chicken Recipes book." But I like this challenge. When we bought our Wok we got a cook book that looked great at the time but once I got it home, I figured I'd never be able to make those recipes. So this is going to challenge me to try stuff from that cookbook.

Jenny-Fair - I'm going to pm you a recipe for ground turkey.
