I remember in high school, sitting up late with my mom watching Johnny Carson.

It seemed he was always "amazed" at the things he "did not know."

Karnak (sp) the Magnificent was great!

Yeah, he frequently made that comment, and it was always very emphatic. "I did not....know that!"

I think Johnny was one of the best "interviewers" because he really seemed interested in the guests he had on there and did not seem like he was always thinking ahead to how he could come up with a joke, etc. In other words, I guess I felt like he was not there just to show off himself, but to actually let the guests speak, instead of jumping in and interrupting them constantly. And whether he was genuinely amazed or not, at least he acted the part well and did seem interested in learning new facts - like stuff about the animals with Joan Embry from the San Diego Zoo.

I saw today that Frankie Laine just died at age 93.

Two indicators that you qualify as a Geezer if:
1) You remember Frankie in his hey-day, and
2) Your first thought on hearing this news was, "I thought he died ages ago."

Guilty on both counts.

I forget who he is.

Really? He sang the theme song to Raw Hide and he sang the once popular song Mule Train, among others.

Omigosh. Euty you are wonderful. I never could remember who sang those songs. Both of those were my favorites as a babe. Just a tyke in my diapers, I used to rock and jump to those. I was especially intrigued with the whip sound. LOL

WOW! Now maybe I can search and find those songs rerecorded on CD.

Frankie Lane was a little more heavy set than the "exercise nut" you're thinkin' of. Actually, Jack LaLane is still on tv selling a juicer. When I look at him and his wife, I'm almost convinced to buy one. But I'm cheap, so I don't.

That juicer is one of the best and most reasonably priced. I've got one. Relatively quiet, fast as can be, and easy to clean. Really does a superb job.

And as we get further from 40, we need all the help we can get in chewing, gumming, or just getting food down - and the more fiber it has in it the better.

I just found this thread and love it. I would love to read all 1400 and some post but I'm 65 and I could be dead by the time I'm through. I just don't have that many years left.

In our newest mall with our new Target is a shiny new Barnes & Noble that opened this week. Mrs. Euty drug me to convinced me to go with her to Barnes & Noble to have a look see.

IMO, if our Books A Million is like a library, then our Barnes & Noble is like a gift shop in the Atlanta airport - noisy and chaotic, in a down home sort of way...

Anywhat, I eventually meandered into their DVD & audio section and began to find all sorts of music that intested me. Being a trumpet player, I bought a CD of marches and another with 20 songs by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. I put Herb's CD in my car player this morning and between here & Walmart, then back again, I became 17 again - I could even feel the wind blowing through my blond locks that haven't been there in decades.

Wow... the power of music.

Sometimes I think that if I'd known then what I know now, I probably would've been dangerous.

I don't agree with everything P.J. O'Rourke says, but I like a lot of his writings. Truth be told I think I have all of his books. I always get a chuckle out of Age and Guile Beat Youth, Innocence, and a Bad Haircut.

Are you talking about Dr. "hubba hubba" Ben Casey from TV?

I didn't watch TV too much back then, but I do remember he was all the rage.

I thought it was Dr. Kildare who was the rage -- at least back then.

Dr. Kildare was a sissy boy compared to Dr. Ben Casey. Ben was more than a face, he was cool.

And our "new" member hasn't posted since January 19!

I was just thinking this week that turning 30 wasn't even a blip on my mental radar. Forty was a bit of a mental shock and 50 even more so. But, for the first time in my life I've really begun to feel my age during the past 2 years.

More than ever, I believe that growing old ain't for sissies

This is actually the perfect place to post a recent occurance.

We are attending a church that is in the beginning stages of going beyond being a church plant.

Their current meeting place is convenient to a very young aged group. So, only 15 months into this church plant, there are about 120 people ALL of which are in their 20 & 30's.

seriously

Anyways, we've been attending b/c we will be doing a plant within the same network and wanted to meet some people locally that we would be in community with.

So...after 3 weeks of attending and meeting some of them, I come in this last Sunday and say good morning to a few ladies I've managed to remember the names of. They greeted me and the one gal says that she is so glad that me and my husband have continued to come back.

She continues...

We've just been praying for so long for someone who is

well, who is...

uh...wiser to start attending our church.

I hugged and told her that was probably the sweetest thing anyone had said to me in a while.

She was so embarassed...I just laughed.

Carson was a Parr wannabe... laff.

Yep... i'm that old. I'm 56. We only had two channels on our TV when I was a kid. Sometimes I miss those days, especially when these days seem so crazy but then I remember that I am now that much closer to the end... and that is a good thing.

When we got our TV there was only one channel available (shows I am olkder or at least lived further out in the sticks than you did Julien).

Now I recieve well over 200 channels, but have most of them blocked because the are so worldly that I refuse to watch them. Other than the discovery channel, news, and animal planet, I am back to watching reruns of Gunsmoke, Dukes of Hazzard, etc. Oh yea, I must admit NASCAR just seems to pop up, and praise God for TIVO so I can catch those Sunday early and late races that coincide with Church .

I don't have TIVO but I do have a VCR. I hafta confess that when I was a kid there were more than a few Sunday evenings we missed church to catch an episode of Bonanza.
