Thanks Buddy, I really like that one photo too - it's one of my favorites. I thought about playing with the WB after taking those, you're right, I could probably fix that with changing the white balance.....I need more experimenting time - and I was kinda rushed (we went with a couple other "mommies")....I feel like I need to go back there and spend a little more time.

Hey Bill and Buddy.....please go see the wedding I shot on Saturday (you don't have to look at all the pics...there are a lot - just kinda overview them) and let me know what you think. All criticism will be accepted graciously.

I was telling Bill that I had to edit almost every one of these pics because most of the people were sunburnt. Ugh....also, some of the pics were really dark so I had to do some repair to those as well.

Hi Beckey,
Checked out your photos. You spent a busy day for sure. The photo IMG-0276-ID00073 got my vote for the best.

It was a great pity everything had to be so dark for you. Does your camera have a "histogram" thingo ? - basically a dynamic graphical light meter which would help immensely.

I also liked those reception photos where there was a curtain in the background. And Kids - they make any photo sessions great for sure.

My camera has a broken battery charger and 3 flat batteries ... I'm grounded for a whole week! I reckon i'll be matching Landibee's Great Cry Of Woe for sure!

Well, i'm off to watch TV for the evening. It feels like winter has finally arrived here,

Buddy

Hi Beckey, sorry I took so long, but my home pc died. And now it's almost time to go home...so real quick:

Good job overall. Looks like the room was pretty dark, making it tough to work in. Were you using the popup flash on your camera? If you were, and plan on doing more weddings, you need to invest in a separate dedicated flash unit. I would recommend one with a swivel head so that you can bounce the flash. That will help get rid of some of the heavy shadows as well as a lot of redeye. Another way is to put a piece of panty hose over the flash lens. It will limit the amount of light and also give it a warmer effect.

Also watch your backgrounds and foregrounds for clutter. Some of the group shots would have been more effective if the chairs were removed from the foreground. And the kids around the dance floor weould be better without all the cords from the lights. But the really important pics of the bride and groom and their families were well done.

And now it's time to go home. Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeya!!!

I thought about using my other flash, but I didn't have time to try it out and see if it would work with the camera or not. I don't want to have to buy a canon flash if I don't have to and all it said in the instructions was buy a canon flash. I will have to try the pantyhose idea, it sounds cool.

I hated the clutter too....I wanted the pic, but it wasn't like I could go tell the dj - hey - move your cords dude! (as much as I wanted to) .

Thanks professor!!!! Good advice all around! What would I do without ya?

Beckey, you don't have to buy a Canon flash, they just want you to think that. I use a Sunpak on my Nikons that cost a little over $100. The key is to get a dedicated flash, i.e. one with an interface that will talk to your camera. I'd also recommend one with a swivel head so that you can bounce the flash off the ceiling or a side wall. That will also eliminate some of the harsh shadows. And one more hint for portrait-type shots, have your subject look slightly to one side instead of straight into the camera.

***Incoming Message from the Big Giant Head ***

I was at "Somewhat Decent Buys" yesterday looking for something else, and with all this talk of spiffy cameras I've been reading, I decided to take a stroll over to the diggie camera section. I haven't looked at them in about a year and was amazed at just how many models there are now. I really fell for the Canon digital elph just for its gadget-ness and also the Canon Digital Rebel. One of these days I'm going to save up and splurge on one of those diggie SLR's. I've got to figure out how to use the settings on my current diggie first, though.

With four sisters I don't have to, so there! I just wait for them to rip a pair. Bound to happen at least once a day!

Hi everyone,
All quite here at home. I have a new battery charger, 3 fully charged batteries, and it has been raining for the past week! However, thanks be to God because we need it.

With the charger, i also bought a macro conversion lens. I t means that I can take photos of bugs and tiny spiders and things from about 1.6 cm away. All they have to do is to co-operate and stay still for me lol

We now have The Hervey Bay Camera Club. The first meeting is in a fortnight's time so I will be going along to have a looksee.

Buddy

That sounds cool Buddy! I need to look into the free classes I have tickets for that I got when I bought my cannon. I think they will be very useful.

I took a bunch of pics at the zoo yesterday - after I get them uploaded I'll send a link. I LOVE my camera. I want to order some assesories now, like the hard-shell cover and maybe another lens......maybe I should start saving.

Here is a link to pictures I took at the zoo yesterday.....notice the macro shots of the flowers and plants.....I REALLY love this camera!

We got to witness a flamingo egg hatching - it was sooooo neat. It was also very hot there if ya can't tell from the pictures - I believe it was 97 degrees on the drive home.

hey, i just noticed this thread and i'd like to pop in! i've enjoyed taking some pretty cool digital photos with our camera, but this year i became a teaching assistant for a photo class at a really expensive private summer school. it turns out that they don't need me for much, so i just get to do whatever the class does. a couple weeks ago i bought an olympus camera on amazon used. the flash is broken but i don't need it... and it was $25 so yay. so i've been taking and developing a lot of black and white photos. i get unlimited supplies so that is awesome. it is a TON of fun. i haven't really scanned most of what i've done there yet, but i will... i developed one today that i love a whole whole lot. but i do have some work (photo and other) up on a website that you can visit here. i will post more of my actual black and white photos soon! i just signed up for an intro photo class at college next semester, and i hear our photo program is really good and really hard (2nd in the nation they say) so i'm excited to learn more.

Hi Becky,
Enjoyed all your photos at the zoo. Was that a cassowary I saw? They come from New Guinea /Northern Australia. I also spotted a Rainbow Lorikeet. There are many of them around here, apparently they range from the Phillipines to New Caledonia in the wild.

But those flamingoes were awesome, I reckon. Also liked the photos of the kids sitting on the lion statues. Reminded me of that verse:
Isa 11:6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

I'm off now to see why I can no longer post to my own photo spot - may have something to do with an updated firewall - at least i hope it's that easy!

Glad you are very pleased with your camera,
Buddy

I can't believe there are no threads on photography, so here I am starting one. I am an avid photobug....far from professional, though I have shot several weddings for friends and family, and a few portraits.

Aside from my children, I like to take pictures of anything that catches my eye - just recently got some super shots of the springtime wildflowers here in TX. I take a lot of scenic/nature type photos.

Anyone else out there camera crazy?

Yes,

I still enjoy photography. I did it professionaly for awhile though and kind of got burned out. I did weddings. I had a 500 CM Hasselblad with two 24 roll backs, 80 MM, 150MM lenses. Softar filters. I had a custom Jack Curtis hood and mask set for my lenses. Had a Metz 45CT4 flash mounted on my flash bracket. Used Sunpack and light slaves for my portraits. Used Old Masters backgrounds.

That's a lot of stuff WOFman.....let me take a moment before my head explodes.

I don't know if I'd ever like to be "professional".....too much pressure, plus I wouldn't want to "burn-out" or start hating it.

Hi Wofman,
Good to meet you.

I can only echo Becky's remark "That's a lot of stuff ...".

Are you still into photography but on a relaxed level? - general things like nature, architecture, CARS, etc . And have you ventured into digital cameras at all? generally quick and ready, results quickly displayed on computer, rejects easily disposed of (i like that one), photos easily shared and no film to buy or wait for development.

Ya know, I was just thinking about something....I got my love for photography from my Dad.....I got my eye for photography from my Mom.

My Dad loved to take pictures, unfortunately they were'nt always that great - my favorite were his "air show" pictures.....he would take hundreds of photos of lots of sky with a teeny tiny plane somewhere in the middle. Or he would always manage to get pics of people looking their worst.

He would have LOVED digital cameras, but he passed away in '88.....a wee bit before the digital age. I still have the camera he bought me for my graduation.

Thanks SA229......I'm taking every opportunity to play with my new toy these days. I'm contemplating a trip to the coast. The first time I went (mind you, this was the first time I ever saw the ocean and I was 21)....I took a slew of pictures of "dead things on the beach".....I probably won't do that this time....but it's funny to look back on.

I do like our Zoo.....we have a season pass, so we go whenever we can. This was the first time we got a guided tour though. Pretty neat.
