I love your rose photos Ezri....and I think it is soooo cool that they are YOUR roses. I have to go to the neighbors to take pretty flower pics. I can't grow weeds.

I met with a lady today who is interested in me shooting her wedding.....I prepared a slide show of work from all of the other weddings I've shot for a sample - so she could see some of my work and then my portable dvd player wouldn't work.....I was so upset. But I gave her the dvd to take home and look at. I am going to have a book made so I have something more tangible next time....Live and learn. I wanted to kick myself. Oh well.

LOL!!! No, they grow without my help - but if I tried to grow them, they wouldn't.

Hi Photoman,
Went through your photos today. Many good shots, with much thought going in to them. Do you enjoy bushwalking/hiking?. I do all my travelling in front of the TV these days LOL

Thanks Buddy.
The outdoors is my passion. I took most of the photographs from hikes I taken. I always take my camera with me, this weekend I just got up and left to take pictures. I am a morning person so when ever we go camping or on trips I get up early and head out to take photographs. I like doing things spontaneously and at the spare of the moment.

I've actually shot about 10 weddings. It's just usually for friends or family of friends - so I never really had to sell myself before, ya know? I guess I wasn't as prepared as I thought. I haven't heard from her yet, so we'll see. I know it's a lot of work. I always feel whipped after a wedding.

I have shot candids at 5 weddings. All for family and friends. I give the pocket CD-R to them as a gift before I leave the reception. I think the next time I will take it with me and copy it to a full size CD-R and maybe put together a lil power point presentation as well. I have jusr discovered how much fun those are to make. I can put together a BUNCH of photos in Power point and set up a slide show and my husband can watch them all float by in just a few minutes as opposed to click and open click and open.

Any way my giving the original disk to the couple means I have nothing of the photos I took.

At the last wedding. (my sweetie performed it) for my niece I took one of her with a stained glass window behind her with the sun set coming thru the colors reflecting on her dresss et al. Oh it was a lovely shot and a candid! I did have her stand still for a 2nd shot when I saw how lovely the first came out on my viewer. She was tickled with it. I also got behind her and took a few shots of her and him and everyone taking photos OF them! Another shot she says she loves. They didn't have a professional photog so what she got from family and friends was it.

I didn't totally short myself. I used a seperate disk and took a 2 of my sweetie performing the ceremony as well as of him signing the certificates and the like. Somewhere.....

I've done two weddings, one of which was my mom's! Talk about obsessing over getting it right! I'm not a good people phtographer, at least in my opinion. The Missionettes director at church disagrees and recruits me to shoot all of her functions. Ooh, my new computer should be delivered today, so I should be able to up load some shots from my vacation in DC this weekend!

Yay!!! New computers are so much fun!!!

I shot one wedding where, I kid you not....the MIL to be hired her own photographer, so I was fighting for shots the entire time. It was a little more than annoying, but I was very gracious about it.

Bill - did you take the pic on your avatar? It is beautiful. Makes me wish I was there watching it.

Yeay uncabeeil!

I am sure there are lots of crazy stories with weddings.. that is weird to have two photographers. My sister had a photographer and a videographer but they weren't really in the way of each other.

Ezri the roses are beautiful!

Beckey your kids are funny, how cute.

Yep. That's the beach on the north end of the city I live in. Or that's how it was probably 20 or so years ago. Now, thanks to the geniuses at the Army Corps. of Engineering we have a flat, featureless beach that is slowly being eroded away all over again.

Yeap I ran into this problem before. Sometimes the so called pro's pictures come out worst can those amatuers.......like me. I had my sister hire a pro but she liked my pictures better. I think the pro's are there to make $$$$ and do not care like friends and family. I will do it for free but not for $$$$$$$$$$

Yeah, staying out of eachother flash can be a problem. I did back up for a friend, and she and her husband wished they had hired me to do the whole wedding, they liked my shots better. Next thing you know they were trying to get me into their friend's weddings. I can imagine it would be tough if you didn't know the relationship between people before hand, so you don't know who is who.

Hello, I'm new to this thread, but I was just wondering if anyone sells any pictures that they take. I take lots of pictures (mostly slides) of the outdoors, and I often feel guilty for investing quite a bit for a hobby. I get some amazing pictures, and really enjoy showing people the wonders of God's creation through pictures, but I'd feel like more of a steward if I could have some income from this hobby!

Also, have any of you ever sought out emotions or stories from an abstract nature photo? I am learning to look for things like that, but so far it's just snapping at what looks cool to my eye.

I am currently in my Rose phase... I have done previous things like old buildings, sweeping landscapes, sunsets and the like. I usually get "hooked" on something and click til It is no longer interesting. I have been snap happy since I was 14. My folks and friends all say I should put together some shots and mat them then get a booth at say a Fair or Craft show. I have never done it. I fear that if I do it for money then it won't be any fun any more. The demand to do it just right perfect is overwhelming for me BUT I have only ever tried to sell hand crafts such as dolls and custom pillows and the like.

It might be something to look into LATER, yeah like when I can replace some of the early works of the mountains and old buildings that were lost in a basement flood(those were 35mm) Most of what I have now is of the flowers already mentioned.

My pictures are for me. I think that photography is like art in that it should speak to you. I read some of the reviews on the professional photo sites and some of the people are downright nasty. Obviously two people can photograph the same thing , like ezri's roses and get different things out of it. So to quit rambling, I don't know if I would sell my photos or not. But it would be fun to do.

I mean if I had any good ones to sell!

There are a couple of good books if you want to look into selling you photos. One gives tips on how to set up a portfolio, the other is a list of companies, mags, etc. that buy photos and what you need to do to submit some. Here's a link.

there's a link in the above quote for some books if you are interested in selling your photos.

I Like taking pics of what tickles MY fancy... how else can one explain 40 disc's(each holds 100-125 pics EASY) of mostly flowers and family? If I ever sold any it'd be like my family and friends have mentioned... at craft fairs or the like where you rent a booth and set out your wares. Nothing where I'd be Judged by anyone save the person pointing and saying "Hey how much for that one?" or "Thats a bit much for that one would you take-----?"

if you look into some of these books Ezri, you could do "stock" photography which (I may be wrong, but I think this is the jist) would be like, someone needs rose photos and goes (online maybe) and looks at yours, finds one they like that meets their needs and you get a set fee for the usage of your photo......you said you had old buildings, landscapes, and sunsets....same for those. You wouldn't even have to go to a craft show or fair to sell them.

I know you're really creative with editing and you could add some scriptures or quotes to your photos and I would order one frame it, mat it, and hang it by my desk.

Hello everyone!!

I've read through much of this thread and the question that I initially had was answered (about the different photo programs out there! Thank you very much.

I've also taken a few pics with my new Canon (had it for just over a month now) and I uploaded a couple pics in the CW Photo Gallery. I had a friend take a couple of pics of myself and they turned out pretty good....although I still have some experimenting to do.

I have to recommend this magazine to all of you in this forum. I now a lot of us are using Adobe and some other photo software programs. I have been reading this magazine for some time now called “Better Digital Photography” This magazine is great to teach you some tricks and techniques. I recommend it but it is pricey. I have updated photo bucket. I am planning a trip this weekend to the Grand Canyon so hopeful I will take some photographs. It’s in God’s will.
