My rant of the day is about people who assume things about people based on what they're wearing. I have fought this in myself, because I am prejudiced against women wearing denim skirts and holiday sweaters. I try not to judge too harshly anymore.

People who wear black are not goth! (necessarily)

That's all.

Women wearing denim skirts and holiday sweaters are elementary school teachers, can't hate 'em!

I'm annoyed because the signature I want is too long:

"There is a societal notion that leaving any situation is bad unless you know where you're going...But the idea that the future is always visible from the place we stand is unrealistic. Sometimes we have to walk on a while until a new horizon come into view...We [may] wander for a while in the strange place called 'don't know.' Don't know where I'm going. Don't know what is coming next. Don't know who I am anymore. This is courage, not confusion. It is wisdom, not folly. It creates the space for something to be born."

Exactly! I don't want to hate teachers...truly I don't. I did make my sister-in-law promise when she got her first teaching job that she wouldn't dress like a teacher. So far, so good.

I highly recommend some Leslie and the Lys.

I thought I was really cool, when I was younger, with one of these and a pair of these, over my puffy-paint sweatshirt outfit. Oh yeah!

How do you live with that? Being that honest therefore not being an easy wife. Your husband actually told you that?
My husband hasn't but he looks at me like I got 3 heads at times. Maybe he doesn't know how to voice it. I'm like why is honesty so profound to you? Is that too honest? Sometimes I question myself about that. I can't help it though.
Besides he couldn't stand anything less in his wife then complete honesty.

No such thing as "too honest." There's better and worse ways to convey honesty, mind you.

I think you've somehow posted in the wrong thread...

Well, maybe your attempt to corral all the alternakids would have worked if you'd offered beer!

Or if there were more than like, four of us.

Any of y'all catch the Rev. Phelps thoughts on the death of George Carlin? I am sure am in good company, when I go to hell.

The Rev. Phelps can kiss my you-know-what. No, I didn't hear what he said, but I'm sure it was asinine as usual.

I'd like to have seen George's reaction to it.

LOL! I'm sure it would have included a few of his 'seven words'.

I don't drink beer, either.

You want to play, start a game!

A few years ago I made my friend a set of glasses, for VD Day (Valentine's Day). I etched all the seven words in them (one per piece of glassware, different types), and made a gift box with George's face on them.

It was hard to get the really long one on there. But well worth it.

I don't drink beer, either, anymore. So I probably wouldn't be much fun in a real tavern.

You guys are a regular barrel of laughs.

When I started running, I cut down on my drinking and I felt so much better that I quit all together. I have a beer or wine here and there at weddings at stuff, but that's it.

The other day, I was reading a book about the Emerging Church. In it, the author quoted a non-believing reporter's observation about a huge Christian music festival (the article was titled something like "Jesuspalooza--20000 Christians, but where's Jesus?"). The reporter criticized the consumerism rampant at the event and commented on the hypocrisy of the believers. In part, what would Jesus think about the marketplace?

You and your passion for this subject popped into my head as I was thinking about it...

You know, I love this response. Have no idea where it belongs (or even what it says) but I love it. I think I'll go post it all over the Theo folders. And maybe once or twice in Singles.

How much you wanna bet that most people take me seriously and try to engage me in "dialog"?

He (Jesus) would hate it. Just like he'd hate all the stores in the mall, every last WWJD bracelet, the banner ads on this site, and all of it, that simply uses Christianity as a demographic/marketing tool. He'd say how about spending that twenty bucks on feeding some hungry people, instead of buying Made in China stuff you have zero need for?

Does this mean I can't inscribe WWYD on the bracelet my parents want to get me?

I always think it's a little presumptious for people to decide what Jesus does or doesn't hate.
