God. Is. Greater!

Originally published Sunday, 13 April 2014.

“Our God is greater

Our God is stronger

God, You are higher than any other…”

Have you heard that song?

If not, just take a second to really stew on those words…

“God, You are higher than ANY other.”

Any other what?

Person?

Thing?

Struggle?

Force?

Circumstance?

What is He greater than?

Needless to say, I couldn’t get this song out of my head and have really reflected on these lyrics.

So throughout my day yesterday, whenever I would have a moment of frustration or doubt or hardship, I would say, “God, you are greater.”

The more I said it, the more I focused on Him.

He was always greater than what I was facing.

He has always been greater than anything I will ever face.

He will always be greater than anything I will ever face.

When I choose to turn my focus from Jesus, my circumstances will overwhelm me.

But when I reflect on His heart, read of His promises, spend time just conversating with Him, I am overwhelmed with His heart and I KNOW, He is greater.

Because I was verbalizing His sovereignty, I felt less of a need to control my circumstances and experienced peace regardless.

I could honestly and truthfully say, “Lord, YOUR will be done”, and mean it!

I think that is a phrase I have heard so many times that I became numb and rather ignorant of what it actually meant.

God, YOUR will be done.

Independent of my earthly desires, regardless of what it means for MY life, I deeply and whole-heartedly trust your heart Jesus and I know that Your will is perfect.

You see, that’s when it becomes really cool.

Because you are so busy praising God for His faithfulness and goodness, you no longer have time to worry about your circumstances!

And when Satan wants to pull you into that vortex, you can recognize it, take the thought captive and say, “God, YOU are GREATER than this. I trust YOU.”

Do you have any idea how powerful that is?

Satan has many weapons and many methods he uses to fight but I would argue that they all boil down to one thing: Distraction.

Because the reality is this: Satan could put you in a pit of burning flames but if you were focused on the living and true God, your soul would still be at rest.

So, naturally, He tries to do anything to get you to look away.

He changes your focus because he knows good and well that if you get a glimpse of the face of your Savior, you will remember…

He.

Is.

Greater.

Your addiction? He is greater.

Your past?  He is greater.

Your family issues?  He is greater.

Your lack of integrity?  He is greater.

Your financial stress?  He is greater.

Your broken marriage? He is greater.

Your failures? He is greater.

Your perfectionism? He is greater.

Your fear? He is greater.

Your sexual abuse? He is greater.

Your obsessions? He is greater.

Your materialism?  He is greater.

I don’t what it is for you but the best part is, I don’t have to know.

All I have to know is that if I ask you who you follow and you answer with “Jesus”, I will tell you the following:

He is greater, my friend.

I just can’t even say it enough; Our God is alive and His Kingdom reigns.

The way our story unfolds has everything to do with who we follow.

Your God is greater than your struggles, your current circumstances and your fears.

Verbalize it, believe it and trust it.

But most importantly, walk in it.

Write it down somewhere today and re-focus on this truth.

GOD.

IS.

GREATER.

He’s just soooooooooooooooooooo good to us, isn’t He?!? Love y’all!

“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” -1 John 4:4
