Kimberly Amici is one of those people who inspire, who is the friend whose love for God makes you want to see Him and hear Him and get more of Him in your life, too. I got to meet Kimberly face to face a few years ago, over on the East Coast, and I am delighted she is sharing with us her heart and her inspiration for getting our loved ones to carry with them scripture, no matter where they are. Please join me in welcoming Kimberly today:

I absolutely love technology. With a few swipes of my finger, I can find out how many steps I have taken in a day, create a photo collage to share on Instagram, or find out what my friends are reading. Just the other night my family and I were out to dinner. As we waited for our food, we were debating how long the FIFA Women’s World Cup has been around. Thanks to my smart phone and instant access to the Internet, I learned that the inaugural tournament was played in 1991.

A few years back we would never have imagined that one-day we would have that much information at our finger tips, let alone, carry it around with us in our purse.

I have found however, that with the ability to access information so easily, I have committed less to memory. I am embarrassed to say that I no longer know the telephone numbers of my loved ones. Rarely is that ever a problem because I have their contact in my phone, on my computer, and I can find them on Facebook. Only when I was without electricity for 12 days after Hurricane Sandy did it matter.

Note to self: You can’t always rely on technology.

Even more crucial to commit to memory than important phone numbers is the Word of God. Memorizing Bible verses strengthens our prayer life and enables us to pray God’s Word. It fills our minds with good, such as who we are in Christ and how much we are loved. Our personal relationship with God grows as we get to know His heart and eventually trust Him based on His Word.

Despite how important this spiritual discipline is, I had neglected it. And then a few years back, in an attempt to help my children make good choices, I came up with a scripture memory plan.Together with my husband, I made a list of areas we wanted to see growth, both in our kids and ourselves. I found corresponding Bible verses and created cards for each topic. On the front of the card I wrote “Read It”. That’s where the memory verse is printed. And on the back “Pray It”, I turned the verse into a prayer.

My kids and I used the cards as a mini-devotional and prayed the prayers at bedtime. I also kept a set in my purse or in my car so when I had a moment to spare, I’d pull them out, read them, meditated on them, and pray.

As more and more of the God’s Word was planted in my heart through scripture memorization I found it easier to access His wisdom, peace, and strength in times of need. Faith replaced fear and hope eclipsed despair.

When we memorize God’s Word, we carry it with us wherever we go and can access it at any time.

What we sow into our hearts and minds is available to us in the instant we need it. The best part . . .  no wi-fi or cellular service required.

These cards are available as a free to download on my blog. However, if you prefer the convenience of receiving these cards professionally printed, trimmed, and delivered to your mailbox, you can purchase them in my Etsy shop. Choose from a variety of topics or purchase the Starter Set that includes all 48 cards shared on my site.

In my shop you will also find NEW scripture cards available in 3 month, 6 month, and 1 Year subscriptions. They are available in the form of a digital download or printed product. The first set ships in August.
