I just love books, and I’ve decided to share my favorites with you all. Once a month, I will review and giveaway one of my favorite books. I figure it’s a good way to pass along some great titles and give you some insight into what has been influencing me and my thoughts. I hope you enjoy these posts and find these resources to be as inspirational and influential as I did!
I wanted to actually do what Jesus said to do. So I quit my life. - Katie Davis
Following Jesus' call to radical obedience, Katie Davis found herself in Uganda––first for a short-term mission trip while still in high school; then for a longer, one-year commitment after graduation to teach kindergartners. But after that year ended––after returning to the States, to her "normal" teenage life––Katie realized returning to "normal" wasn't possible for her any longer. She had seen too much. Knew too much. There was a world––a broken, dying world––out there that needed someone to realize they were the "someone" who could make a difference. And so Katie did. The high school homecoming queen from Nashville, Tennessee up and moved to Africa to answer God's call on her life, effectively changing the lives of many.
The story told in Kisses from Katie is one that is sure to inspire and challenge just about anyone who reads it. It truly is a story of relentless love and redemption, as its subtitle states. Katie's pursuit of Jesus is beautiful, and her commitment to following Him wherever He leads is astounding.
I read Kisses from Katie in only a few sittings. Honestly, I just couldn't seem to put it down because, you see, Katie Davis––only a young woman, herself––was a picture of how I sought to live my life. I want to live life differently. I want to follow Jesus to the ends of the earth, if it be His will, to bring love and hope to a darkened world. And Katie's story continues to challenge me to not allow myself to become complacent. To actively pursue my Lord and Savior. And to never fall back into the comfort of my American life and turn a blind eye to the troubles all around me.
We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus here on this earth. We are called to action. To make a difference. And so we must. For if not us, then who?
If you have yet to read Kisses from Katie, I highly recommend you do so. This is one of the only books I have actually purchased several copies of to give to those around me because I believe this story has the power to ignite something within each of our souls. It may just be the spark you're looking for that will set your heart ablaze for the cause of Christ.

Amazima Ministries
Katie founded Amazima Ministries in 2008. Amazima is an organization that seeks to feed, educate, and encourage the orphaned, poor, and vulnerable in the country of Uganda while revealing God's unconditional love through Jesus Christ to the people they minister to. I have found this ministry to be worthy of support, so be sure to consider whether or not God is leading you to play a part in this magnificent organization.
