Operation Christmas Child – Shoebox Collection Week is Here!

Devotions vs Kids

Do you do devotions with your kids?

I’ll be honest… we’ve struggled with this in our house.

This morning I sat with my girls on the couch and watched a short YouTube video about Jonah and The Whale.  They were engaged with the video but trying to get them to talk about it afterward was hard.

We have dozens of devotional books but I find most of them leave my girls with the same response to God: just trust, just believe and be good.

But you and I both know there’s a lot more to our faith. And this next generation is smart; they need to be challenged with their faith at an early age.

This is why I’m grateful for friends like, Lynn Cowell.

She’s an ordinary woman who has stepped up and said, “I’m going to do what I can do to challenge this next generation to seek God.”

So she decided to write an amazing 365-day devotional just for tween and teen girls.

I was thrilled about her decision to do this because I know… this generation is a tough crowd. And the resources available are very slim picking.

But the real test came once the book arrived at my house.

I gave it to my 12-year old daughter, Taylor. She’s an avid reader and doesn’t mess around with her book choices. She seemed a little hesitant to read it, but she said she would start it that night.

A few days passed and I asked her, “So Taylor, what are your thoughts about Lynn’s devotional book?”

I expected her to say she hadn’t had a chance to read it yet. So when she said this… I was surprised,

“Oh, I’ve been reading it every night. It’s good. And I like it… and um, I don’t really like devotionals.”

She said she likes it because it’s short, to the point [no fluff] and provides her with a challenge.  It’s also helped her and I to create conversations about her faith, something I’ve longed for.

This devotional book is a winner in our home.

Here’s some great news! Lynn has offered to do a giveaway just for this community. She’s giving away a signed copy of her book His Revolutionary Love with a copy of this brand-new-hot-off-the-press-365-day-devotional.

To win, all you have to do is leave a comment here on this post to tell me who you would want to win these books for. I’ll pick a winner Monday and announce it here.

I hope you’ll take a minute and check out all the resources Lynn has to offer. She’s an amazing mom, amazing speaker and a woman who is passionate about this next generation.

Her blog has tons of free resources for moms: http://www.lynncowell.com.

And from a mom raising the next generation, thank you Lynn.  My heart is grateful for your persistence. I pray this message spreads quickly and many girls’ lives are forever moved to the heart of our God.
