7 Traits: A Rule For Life

I recently met with my life coach, Vickie Bridges, who encouraged me with something she wrote: 7 Traits: A Rule for Life.

She wrote 7 traits because they helped her to be more intentional in connecting with God and with others.

It is Vickie's hope that they provide a pathway of self-examination and decisions where you journey with the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to transform and guide you in spiritual growth.

For anyone like me who is in transition or thinking of making a change for life. Feel free to use them prayerfully and practically to assess truths in your own life.

1. Know Yourself ~ What values and desires are in my heart and drive my decisions?

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" (Psalm 139:13-14, NIV).

2. Walk By Faith ~ Where am I on my spiritual journey, how am I "walking" by faith?

"Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name, I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever" (Psalm 86:11-12, NIV).

3. Know Your Purpose ~ What desire or dream stirs in my heart so strong that I can't ignore it?

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:8-10 , NIV).

4. Run on Priorities ~ Is my lifestyle one of awareness and intentional living?

"Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is" (Ephesians 5:15-17, NIV).

5. Invest in Relationships ~ Where am I showing concern and love for others?

"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you" (John 15:12, NIV).

6. Share Authentically ~ Am I revealing an image or my true self?

"And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit" (2 Corinthians 3:18, NIV).

7. Serve ~ Where am I being called to serve?

"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms" (1 Peter 4:10, NIV).
