God looks down upon us, and He whispers for us to have courage. We can have courage because we know we can have hope in Christ as He is the anchor of our souls (Hebrews 6:19).
Christian quotes are known to bring hope and inspiration into our lives. If you’re like me, maybe you love reading various quotes and seeing which ones resonate with you. I’m an avid book reader; therefore, I’m always on the lookout for quotes and encouraging words. If you need hope, here are five Christian quotes that are sure to provide strength for your Christian journey:
1. Peyton Garland, Tired, Hungry, & Kinda Faithful
Peyton Garland’s second book, Tired, Hungry, & Kinda Faithful, is a book that will bring hope, encouragement, and compassion into your heart. While reading this beautiful book, I took notes and jotted down a few quotes to keep with me. My favorite statement Peyton Garland makes in this book is, “If we follow Christ, we aren’t escaping the difficult seasons. We will be tired and have our faith tested. People will call us liars, pretend not to know us, and seek to bring sorrow into our lives. Yet, we hold to the confidence that Christ is worth it all. He wants us to bloom, sporting lasting petals that withstand the desert” (Peyton Garland, Tired, Hungry, & Kinda Faithful, 18).
This quote from Peyton Garland lifts our hearts out of the depths and reminds us Christ is worthy of all the hard times we will encounter because, as Peyton Garland says, “Christ is worth it all.” Following Jesus doesn’t mean that everything will be rainbows and butterflies all the time. In fact, it will be quite the opposite. Jesus doesn’t promise us “good times,” nor does He promise that He will rescue us from every trial. Instead, He promises He will always be with us, faithfully walking by our side (Psalm 23).
As Peyton Garland reminds us in this quote, God wants us to bloom.
2. C. S. Lewis, Voyage of the Dawn Treader
A second Christian quote that inspires hope is C. S. Lewis’ quote from The Dawn Treader, “Courage, dear heart.” The surrounding context of this quote is Aslan talking to Lucy. Lucy and the others are afraid that Aslan had directed them in the wrong direction, yet Aslan reminds Lucy, “Courage, dear heart.” The same goes for us today. We do not need to be afraid because God is always with us. We can have courage because we know we can trust God and the direction He is leading us.
Hope is hard to find, yet we can have hope in who we know God to be. We can trust in Him as He loves us, cares for us, and strengthens us. When you need hope, remember C. S. Lewis' short, simply, yet inspiring words: “Courage, dear heart.” Even though this was between Lucy and Aslan, the same can be said between us as individuals and God. God looks down upon us, and He whispers for us to have courage. We can have courage because we know we can have hope in Christ as He is the anchor of our souls (Hebrews 6:19).
3. Elisabeth Elliot
A third Christian quote that inspires hope is from Elisabeth Elliot: “You can never lose what you have offered to Christ.” This quote brings hope into our souls because it reminds us of the vital truth that we can never lose what we have offered to Christ. As Christians, we don’t need to lose hope because everything we have given to Christ will be kept safe. Our lives, our hearts, and our hopes rest safely in the arms of Jesus. Let this truth encourage your heart today.
All the faith, hope, trust, and love we have offered in Christ will never be lost. Our hope can steadily rest in His Name because He is worthy of our hope. God will never fail us. Throughout the hills and the valleys, God will always be there with us (Psalm 23). The Lord causes hope to stir in our souls because we know He will never let us down. Placing our faith and hope in others will only cause us to grow disappointed. Others in our life can offer words of encouragement and hope, yet our true hope can only be found in Christ.
4. Amy Carmichael
A fourth Christian quote that inspires hope is from Amy Carmichael. Amy Carmichael gives us a reason to hope by saying, “It is great to be faced with the impossible, for nothing is impossible if one is meant to do it. Wisdom will be given, and strength. When the Lord leads, He always strengthens.” As Amy Carmichael tells us, nothing is impossible if one is meant to do it. If God is directing you into a certain path, even though it may seem impossible, it isn’t. God makes the impossible possible.
God will give us strength and wisdom through every task. This truth should fill our hearts with hope. Nothing is impossible if it is God’s will. Amy Carmichael’s quote fits in perfect conformity with Jesus’ words in the Gospel of Mark, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God” (10:27). If God has a task for us to complete, He will give us the strength and the wisdom to finish the task. Knowing this can bring hope into our weary souls.
5. Gladys Aylward
A fifth Christian quote that inspires hope is from missionary Gladys Aylward. Gladys Aylward states, “If God has called you to China or any other place and you are sure in your own heart, let nothing deter you. Remember, it is God who has called you and it is the same as when He called Moses or Samuel.” If God has called you to a specific field, have hope in your heart that He will carry you on to complete the work He has set before you. As Gladys Aylward tells us, “let nothing deter you.”
This quote brings hope into our hearts because it reminds us that God is the source of our hope. Since God is our hope, we can rest assured in His sure promises. As you move forward through each day, reflect upon the hope you have in Jesus Christ. Gladys Aylward points out the truth that the same God who called Moses and Samuel is the same God calling you today. He hasn’t changed, nor has His love wavered. God is completely worthy of our hope.
Hope in the Lord
We all can have hope in the Lord as Psalm 42:11 says, “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” As this psalm tells us, we need to put our hope in God. Finding hope in anything else will lead to disappointment. None of us are hopeless because God is our hope, our strength, and our fortress. We can run to God and rest in the mighty power of His love.
