“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” - 1 Peter 5:6-7

Use these prayers to give your worries and cares to the Lord and find peace in His everlasting love for us.

A Prayer for Peace

O God, the comfort of all who are sorrowful,
and the salvation of those who put their trust in you, in this dying life,
give us that peace for which we humbly pray,
and finally, receive us into eternal joy in your presence;
through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Lord, Be Our Peace

Lord of the nations,
God in whom we trust,
you alone are holy, good, wise,
and the source of every blessing.
In trouble and turmoil, be our peace.

In our hearts and minds
give us the peace that surpasses understanding.
In our mouths put words of peace,
and make us peacemakers
that we may be called your children.

Let the truth of your Word
govern and guide us
when we are inclined
to be like Pontius Pilate
and say, “What is truth?”

When we are unsure of all things,
draw us to you,
our faithful God,
steadfast in love,
our rock, refuge, and fortress. Amen.

Prayer for Comfort when Hurting by Debbie McDaniel

Dear God, Some days feel too hard. We’re hurting. Struggling. Fighting fear and worry at every turn. Thank you in the midst of it all, you haven’t left us to fend for ourselves. Forgive us for doubting you are there. Forgive us for thinking you’ve forgotten. Forgive us for believing we somehow know the better way.

You are fully trustworthy. You are All-Powerful. You are Able. You are Lord over every situation no matter how difficult it may seem. You are our Healer and will never waste the grief we carry today. You will use all things for good in some way. Anything is possible with you. Nothing is too difficult for you.

We pray for those who grieve today. We ask for your comfort to surround those who weep. We pray for the peace of your presence to cover our minds and thoughts, as you remind us, the enemy can never steal us out of your hands. He never has the final say over our lives. We are kept safe in your presence forever, whether in life or in death.

We thank you that your ways are higher than our ways and your thoughts are bigger than our thoughts. We lay it all down at your feet, every burden, every care. Believing that is the safest place for it to be. We love you, Lord, we need your fresh grace. In the Powerful Name of Jesus, Amen.

A Prayer for a Troubled Heart by Janet Thompson

Lord, we won’t live in a perfect world until we join you in heaven. This current situation won’t be the last crisis for the world or for me. I can’t outrun, outpace, outdo, outsmart, or outlive trouble. It has a way of popping up even in the good and prosperous seasons in the culture, my life, and the lives of those around me.

Lord, quiet my raging emotions so that I can be a beacon of healing love and peace to those in my sphere of influence who are overwhelmed by panic and fear. Please help me memorize John 14:1 to share with others who ask me where my peace comes from: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.” These are the words that your Son Jesus spoke to His disciples to comfort them and they also give me comfort when I don’t know how the story ends. Use me Lord as your disciple to bring healing to a hurting world. Amen.

A Prayer for Your Peace

O Lord, let your tranquility dwell among us,
and let your peace remain in our hearts.
May our voices proclaim your truth,
and may your cross be the guardian of our souls.

O Lord, make us bold, make us worthy
to offer to you pure and holy prayer;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer to be at Peace

Lord Jesus Christ, you told your disciples,
“My peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives do I give to you.
Do not let your heart be troubled,
and do not let it be afraid.”

Give us peace that surpasses all understanding,
peace and goodwill from you,
that guards our hearts and minds
and keeps them focused on you.

Move us to be at peace,
to reflect your peace,
to maintain peace with everyone
as far as it depends on us.

Teach us to reflect your love,
to not be overcome by evil,
but to overcome evil with good.

Stir our hearts
to be joyful in hope,
to endure trials patiently,
to persist in prayer
as we wait for you. Amen.

4th Century Prayer for Peace and Refuge in God

O God, full of compassion, I commit and commend myself to you, in whom I am, and live, and know. Be the Goal of my pilgrimage, and my Rest by the way. Let my soul take refuge from the crowding turmoil of worldly thoughts beneath the shadow of your wings. Let my heart, this sea of restless waves, find peace in you, O God.

You bountifully give all good gifts. Give those who are weary refreshing food. Gather our distracted thoughts and powers into harmony again. Set the prisoner free. See, he stands at your door and knocks. Open it to him, that he may enter with a free step, and be quickened by you. For you are the Well-spring of Life, the Light of eternal Brightness, where the just live who love you. Let it be to me according to your word. Amen.
