Whether your mornings consist of sinking into a comfy chair with your favorite coffee mug or simply trying to get everyone fed breakfast, we all need a reminder of the new mercies each morning brings. Here are 10 prayers from Psalms to set your mind on Jesus in the morning:
There is a gray chair that sits in the corner of our living room. On the floor next to it is a stack of books I’m currently reading through as well as a Chronological Bible I’m determined to finish this year. It has become a well known unwritten rule in our house that it is “mom’s chair.” A place I come to most mornings to sit in silence, read, or pray. I love when I’m able to start my day with this simple routine.
However, different seasons of motherhood and life don’t always allow for this luxury. More often than I’d like to admit, my alarm goes off and I hit snooze a few times, only to wake up feeling as if I’m already behind on the day that has just begun.
Whether your mornings consist of sinking into a comfy chair with your favorite coffee mug or simply trying to get everyone fed breakfast, we all need a reminder of the new mercies each morning brings.

1. A Prayer for Remaining with God
“I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried to you for help and you have healed me. O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit. Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.” (Psalm 30:1-5)
Pray: Lord, as we start another day, it is easy to jump to thinking about all the things we need to get done. Help us to remember this is a new day, and joy comes with the morning. Help us to distinguish the difference between what needs to get done and what we want to get done. Among the mundane tasks, help us sing your praises. With you we have a lifetime of favor. Let our hearts rest in that today.
Amen
2. A Prayer for Remembering What Matters
“O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am! Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath!” (Psalm 39:4-5)
Pray: Lord, I pray that we would go throughout today remembering what is truly important. Our days are numbered and we often fight to be present in the middle of them. Help us to take today in as the gift it is, and glorify you through every encounter, reaction, and circumstance the day brings.
3. A Prayer for Finding Satisfaction in God Alone
“As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?” (Psalm 42:1-2)
Pray: Oh God, how we need you everyday, but especially this morning. These times feel uncertain, everything is strange and we have so many questions about it all. Remind us that we need you more than our questions need answers. Help us to reflect on the ways only you can truly quench the thirst our souls desire.
4. A Prayer to Know God as Your Refuge
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.” (Psalm 46:1-5)
Pray: Father, help us remember that today and everyday you are our refuge. Help us feel the peace that only you can give when fear comes. When anxiousness strikes our minds I pray we will focus on your word alone.

5. A Prayer to Receive God’s Steadfast Love
“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.” (Psalm 63:1-3)
Pray: Lord, help us remember your steadfast love today. It is better than anything the day could bring. Thank you for being a constant place we can rest in and a never ending sanctuary. May our words and actions today be a form of worship, praising you in all we do.
6. A Prayer to Be Gracious in Our Ways
“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations.” (Psalm 67:1-2)
Pray: God, I pray as we begin today that we would reflect on the ways you have been gracious to us. Recognizing all the ways you continue to bless us. Father we pray our actions with others who may not know you would point them to you and that they would receive this beautiful gift you offer.
7. A Prayer to Rest in God’s Knowledge of You
“O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.” (Psalm 139:1-3)
Pray: Lord, there aren’t words for the many ways you know us. You have introduced us to ourselves, understanding us more than we ever could. We pray you would continue to show us who you have created us to be today and everyday.
8. A Prayer to Praise God’s Daily Faithfulness
“I will sing of the steadfast love of the Lord, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. For I said, “Steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness.” (Psalm 89:1-2)
Pray: Lord, you are so faithful. This morning and every morning. May we remember the ways you love us today, tomorrow, and forever.
9. A Prayer of Worship for His Love throughout the Day
“It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night, to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre. For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy.” (Psalm 92:1-4)
Pray: Father, may we declare your love this morning as well as when the sun sets on this day. We know your steadfast love will be weaved through it all. Our days get busy, may we slow down to receive this gift you offer us whether we are doing dishes, folding another load of laundry, or helping kids with schoolwork.
10. A Prayer for Open Eyes to God’s Goodness
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who alone does great wonders, for his steadfast love endures forever.” (Psalm 136:1-4)
Pray: God, you are so good. Your word continually reminds us of your steadfast love. The monotony of day to day tasks tend to change our moods but your love is unwavering. You continue to be Lord of lords and God of gods. May our eyes be opened today to your wonders.
