6 Prayers of Adoration to Fill Your Heart with Wonder

Nothing fills the heart with wonder like when we pray to adore God for who He is. To simply enjoy His presence and lift up His name because He is worthy.

Need an adoration prayer today? I love setting aside special prayer time, just me and God. Quiet moments spent in His presence revive my spirit like nothing else on earth. Yet so often I can be guilty of praying with my own agenda. My good intentions to put God first become more about me than my Heavenly Father. My prayer loses its original purpose to lift up His precious name.

In the hustle of daily life, we keep a mental note of the challenges we’re facing, so we can run the list by God in our passing prayer time. But nothing fills the heart with wonder like when we pray to adore God for who He is. To simply enjoy His presence and lift up His name because He is worthy.

When I fall into a pattern of putting my needs first in prayer, I end up feeling depleted. Like I’m not living in the fullness of God’s goodness. In those times I need to pause and reflect on how much I adore the Lord. Shifting my prayer perspective changes everything.

King David demonstrated how to show God our adoration. While giving Solomon gifts for building the Lord’s temple, he prayed this aloud, “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things.” (1 Chronicles 29:11)

Like David, we can express our adoration through prayer. Prayers of adoration will calm any fear, lift our spirits, and fill us with indescribable joy. Here are 6 prayers of adoration based on David’s praise.

Adoration Prayer for God’s Greatness

“Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.” Psalms 34:3

Dear Lord,

I adore you because you are great, and greatly to be praised! (Psalm 145:3) All I have to do is look around to see your greatness displayed. Creation shows me your wonderful work, your power and beauty in all things. Romans 11:36 reminds me of this, “For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever!”

When I slow down from the busyness of life, I notice you more. I hear you in the birds singing and sense your presence in the gentle wind. I get a glimpse of your goodness in the miracle of new life. The morning sunrise reminds me of your mercies that begin fresh every morning (Lamentations 3:22). As I go about my day, I will admire how great you are by pausing to enjoy what you created. In the holy name of your son Jesus I pray, Amen.

A Prayer of Adoration to Our Powerful God

“God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times: Power, O God, belongs to you;” Psalm 62:11

Almighty God,

Sometimes I feel like the disciples when they were in the boat, tossed around by powerful winds and fierce waves. But then I remember how the story ends, with your son Jesus speaking peace to the storm. The disciples were amazed, wondering what kind of man this was who could calm a raging storm (Matthew 8:24-27). I adore you because you are the only One powerful enough to quiet the storms in our lives.

It’s so easy to get overwhelmed when I’m struck by difficult circumstances. But I don’t have to fear anything as a child of God. All power belongs to you! Thank you Lord for your mighty power at work in my life right now. Thank you also for your Holy Spirit who provides power within me to do the things you’ve called me to do. I will never forget where my source of power comes from. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Adoration Prayer and Giving God Glory

“Praise his glorious name forever! Let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and amen!”Psalm 72:19

Holy God,

All glory belongs to you. I come to you in prayer to glorify your name—not because of what you do, but because of who you are. I adore you for being my Abba Father. Your unconditional love for me stretches to the highest mountain peaks and reaches to the depths of the seas. It is beyond anything I can fathom. Your love never ends, and great is your faithfulness! (Lamentations 3:23).

You deserve all the glory, honor, and praise I can offer. Forgive me for any prideful thoughts that would bring glory upon myself. Instead of relying on my own abilities, I choose to praise you and acknowledge that you have everything working for my good. I give glory to you and to the name of your son Jesus, Amen.

A Prayer in Adoration of God’s Majesty

“Let all that I am praise the Lord. O Lord my God, how great you are! You are robed with honor and majesty.” Psalm 104:1

Dear Lord,

I bow before you in reverence. You are the King of kings and Lord of lords. You have dominion over everything in the heavens and on earth. Yet you still care about even the smallest details of my life. That’s why I want to rejoice in you every day. You are worthy!

Omnipotent Father, because of your mercy and grace you sent your son Jesus as a sacrifice for my sins. As a Father you demonstrated a love unlike anything this world has to offer. Because of that love, I will get to spend eternity with you. Lord, thank you for this ultimate gift. Without you I would have no hope. I love you with all my heart, soul, and mind! Thank you for your faithfulness that endures forever (Psalm 117:2). In Jesus name, Amen.

Adoration Prayer to Our Awesome God

“Who is like you among the gods, O Lord—glorious in holiness, awesome in splendor, performing great wonders?” Exodus 15:11

Dear God,

There is no one like you. Glorious, wonderful, and awesome. Let my song be like the one sung by your people when you parted the Red Sea, led them to safety, and defeated their enemies. “Who is like you among the gods, O Lord?” You are my Protector, Provider, and Deliver. Thank you for performing great wonders in my life and the lives of my family!

It seems as though we toss around the word awesome to describe many things in the world. We say our food is awesome, people are awesome, and even accomplishments are awesome. Forgive me for comparing anything to you, because the truth is nothing can compare to your power and glory. You alone are awesome! In the name of your wonderful son Jesus I pray, Amen.

A Prayer to Adore the Lord of All

“There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all.” Ephesians 4:5-6

Dear Heavenly Father,

I adore you because you are the one true and living God. You created this world and everything in it. You created me in your image and put breath in my lungs. With my voice I will proclaim your name, Lord over all. Let everything that has breath praise you! (Psalm 150:6)

Thank you for showing me your goodness in everything you’ve made. Thank you for the presence of your Holy Spirit in my life. Your Word says in Ephesians 4:6, you are “over all, in all, and living through all.” So I know you will always be with me, surrounding me with your love. You are glorious, wonderful, and merciful! In the name of Jesus I give you this praise, Amen.
