Scripture to Combat Depression
Do you or someone you know struggle with depression? Go to God's word!!

My girls were home for spring break last week, and I took some time to be with them. But I wanted to leave my readers with scripture that can help those who struggle with depression. I like to write scriptures that speak to me on index cards. I have a little index card binder I bought at Office Depot that holds all of them, and I try to read them out loud every day at some point. This is particularly helpful when I'm struggling. If you think this would be helpful for you, try it. Instead of sitting in your struggles, turn to God’s Word and speak truth over your mind, your situation, and your feelings.

Jeremiah 29:11-14
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you.

Matthew 28:20
I will be with you always

Matthew 7:7
Ask, and God will give to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will open for you.

Deuteronomy 31:7-8
Be strong and courageous! …Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.

Philippians 4:6-7
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:8-9
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me–practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Philippians 4:11-13
I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Matthew 6:34 (Jesus speaking)
“Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Mark 5:36 (Jesus speaking) “Do not fear, only believe”

James 1:2-4
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

James 1:12
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Psalm145:18 The Lord is close to everyone who prays to him, to all who truly pray to him.
