Living a fulfilled life as a Christian is not easy, but it is worth it. It is the best way to honor God, who created and saved us. It is the best way to experience His love, power, and purpose for our lives.
When asked what a fulfilled life means, most people believe it's about how much wealth, connection, fame, and landed assets you have acquired, including your academic and marital achievements. These are obviously worldly perceptions of what a fulfilled life is.
However, a fulfilled life is lived according to God's will and purpose. It is a life that is meaningful, joyful, and fruitful. A fulfilled life is not measured by worldly standards of success, wealth, or fame but by the eternal value of one's relationship with God and others.
For a Christian, a fulfilled life is also one that is lived in obedience to Christ and His commands. It is a life transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit and reflects the character and love of Christ. A person who seeks first the kingdom of God and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33) loves God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength and loves their neighbor as themselves (Mark 12:30-31).
A fulfilled life bears much fruit for God's glory (John 15:8) and lays up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:20). As the Apostle Paul wrote, "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21). A fulfilled life can say the same with confidence and joy.
Living an unfulfilled life as an unbeliever is like being stuck in a traffic jam. You see other cars moving ahead, but you don't know where they are going or why. You feel frustrated, bored, and hopeless. You wonder if there is a better way to live, but you don't have any faith or direction to guide you. You just keep driving aimlessly, hoping for a change that never comes.
Building a Personal Relationship with God
Building a personal relationship with God, trusting in his words, and serving him with all our hearts are sure ways to have a fulfilled life. The Bible says that God created us in His image and for His glory and that He loves us so much that He sent His Son to die for our sins and give us eternal life (Genesis 1:26-27, John 3:16).
Jesus said that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one can come to the Father except through Him. By trusting in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are forgiven of our sins, adopted as God's children, and filled with the Holy Spirit, who guides us into all truth and empowers us to live for God (Ephesians 1:7-14, John 16:13-14).
This relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ affects every aspect of a Christian's life. It gives us a new identity as God's beloved sons and daughters, who are chosen, holy, and blameless in His sight (Ephesians 1:4-5, 1 John 3:1).
It gives us a new purpose: to glorify God in everything we do and to share the good news of His grace with others (1 Corinthians 10:31). It gives us a new set of values that are based on God's word and character, such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). And it gives us a new way of living that is obedient to God's commands, compassionate to others, and fruitful in good works.
A fulfilled life is based on a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. This is the most precious gift that God has given us, and it is the source of true joy and satisfaction. As we grow in this relationship, we will experience more of his love, grace, and power in our lives. And we will look forward to the day when we will see him face-to-face and enjoy his presence forever.
Loving God and Others as Oneself
Loving God and loving others as oneself is the greatest commandment that Jesus gave us, and it summarizes the whole law and the prophets. To love God means to worship, obey, trust, and serve Him. To love others means to treat them with kindness, respect, compassion, and generosity.
Some practical ways to love God and others in daily life are attending church and fellowshipping with other believers to worship God and encourage one another. Sharing the gospel and your testimony with others who do not know God or are struggling with their faith aids their souls, whether by giving money, food, clothes, or your time and skills. And forgive those who have hurt or offended you and ask for forgiveness when you have done wrong
You can also show love to others by being honest, faithful, loyal, and humble in your relationships with others. Respect the dignity, rights, and opinions of others, even if they are different from yours. By being a good steward of the resources and talents that God has given you and using them for his glory and the benefit of others. By being joyful, peaceful, patient, gentle, faithful, self-controlled, and loving in all situations.
These are some ways to live a fulfilled life by loving God and others as oneself. Of course, we cannot do this perfectly on our own, but we can rely on God's grace and the Holy Spirit to help us. In doing so, we will please God and experience his blessings.
Fulfilling God’s Will and Calling for One’s Life
Many people wonder what the meaning of life is and how to find happiness and fulfillment. The Bible teaches us that the key to a fulfilled life is to follow God's will and calling for our lives. God created us for a specific purpose, and he has a plan for each of us. When we align our lives with his will, we experience joy, peace, and satisfaction.
One way to know God's will and calling for our lives is to study his Word, the Bible. The Bible reveals God's character, promises, commands, and guidance. It also shows us examples of people who obeyed or disobeyed God's will and the consequences of their choices.
The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
Another way to know God's will and calling for our lives is to pray and listen to his voice. Prayer is a two-way communication with God, where we can express our needs, desires, praises, and confessions and hear his response.
God speaks to us through his Spirit, who lives in us when we believe in Jesus Christ. The Spirit guides us into all truth, convicts us of sin, comforts us in trouble, and confirms God's will.
The Bible says in John 16:13-14, "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak what he hears and tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you."
A third way to know God's will and calling for our lives is to seek wise counsel from other believers who know and follow God. God does not want us to live in isolation but in community with other Christians who can encourage us, challenge us, support us, and pray for us.
God also gives spiritual gifts to each believer, such as teaching, prophecy, service, leadership, etc., so that we can edify each other and build up the Body of Christ. The Bible says in Proverbs 11:14, "For lack of guidance, a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers."
Living a fulfilled life as a Christian is not easy, but it is worth it. It is the best way to honor God, who created and saved us. It is the best way to experience His love, power, and purpose for our lives. It is the best way to make a positive difference in the world and to leave a lasting legacy.
However, living a fulfilled life as a Christian is not something we can do on our own; it is something we can do with God's help. He is always with us, guiding and empowering us. He is always faithful, and He will never let us down.
Let us endeavor to live a fulfilled life in Christ and help others do the same. Let us pray for God's will to be done in our lives and to follow his leading. Let us seek his wisdom and direction and obey his voice. Let us love him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love our neighbor as ourselves.
