Standing On Level Ground – Beloved Women – June 2, 2020
READ: “My foot stands on level ground; in the great assembly I will bless the Lord.”
(Psalms 26:12 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: Have you heard the saying “the ground is level at the foot of the cross?” Those words might bring clarity or confusion to us. Jesus was crucified at Golgotha; a skull shaped hill in Jerusalem. It’s not likely that the ground was literally level at the foot of a cross set on a hill. So what does this saying mean?
“My foot stands on level ground” describes David’s spiritual position before God. Psalm 26 reveals reasons why he is able to give praise to the Lord. David cites his integrity, his trust in God, and his faithfulness. He doesn’t hang out with liars and hypocrites. He despises those who do evil. His hands are washed in innocence and he has asked God for redemption. David stands on the level ground of his own righteous acts before the Lord.
Christ’s death on the cross leveled the ground we stand on by providing for our salvation. Our feet rest secure on the solid rock of His mercy and forgiveness. It’s not about what we have done, what matters is what He did. He graciously leveled the ground so that we could all stand before Him and give Him glory, honor, and praise!
PRAY: Father, I am so grateful that You loved us so much that You sent Your son to redeem us from sin. I’m grateful to be able to stand in Your presence. I’m grateful that You leveled the ground and provided a way for me to be holy as You are holy. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
REFLECT: Write out a gratitude list of three things He’s provided for you because of His grace, love, and mercy. Give Him praise for all He has done!
