Ponder the Path of Life – Beloved Women – August 22, 2024
READ
“Her feet go down to death; her steps follow the path toSheol; she does not ponder the path of life; her ways wander, and she does not know it.” - Proverbs 5:5-6 ESV
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT
How foolish would it be to embark on a journey without first pondering the path that will lead you safely and successfully to your destination? Likewise, as we open our Bibles to Proverbs 5:5-6, the author warns us of the spiritual danger in neglecting the path of life, specifically in regard to sensuality.
Lust can feel incredibly enticing in the heat of the moment, but the writer encourages us to overcome reckless sexual impulses by taking time to think through the consequences of yielding to temptation.
Like the adulteress, when we neglect to ponder God’s path to life, we wander into the dangerous spiritual territory of disobedience. This sin can blind us to the hazards we willingly subject ourselves to when we reject God’s Word.
Ultimately, following lust’s lead will cause us to wander away from God, but when we choose to ponder the path of life, we learn to embrace God’s design for our sexuality and the blessings therein.
PRAY
God, thank you for your gift of sexuality. Please help me not to pervert this gift by rejecting your design for this intimate area of my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
REFLECT
Are there any areas in your life where you’ve wandered away from God’s path to life? How can you practically turn back and resubmit to God’s design?
