How to Get Rid of Jealousy – Beloved Women – August 25, 2023
READ
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” - 1 Corinthians 13:4NIV
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT
Daily, we are bombarded with the lives of our neighbors. Where there used to be a time when you had to exert a bit of effort to see the green grass in our neighbor’s yard, now social media gives us a front row seat into the lives of others. Their all-inclusive vacations, irresistible foodie pics, and flawless homes are conveniently waiting at the top of our social media feeds the moment we check in to see what’s new.
Consequently, it is very tempting to be envious of others. It may be that we want what others have because we are more focused on their lives than the lives we’ve been given. If we were to take a day to eliminate social media and focus on the abundant blessings in our lives, we might be pleasantly surprised at how envy becomes less of a problem.
If we are going to truly love our neighbor, we cannot envy them at the same time. We must purpose to get rid of envy by confessing it, repenting of it, and putting boundaries in place that will help us to resist the temptation to covet what others have.
PRAY
Dear Lord, when I am tempted to be envious of others, please remind me of the abundant blessings you have placed in my life. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
REFLECT
How might reflecting on God’s blessings in your life, keep you from being envious of others?
