Know Your Enemy – Beloved Women – December 19, 2023
READ: “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: Big cats like lions and tigers, are known to hunt their prey by stalking them. And the enemy of your soul employs a similar strategy when hunting you. This is why we have to be sober-minded and watchful so that we are aware of his devices.
When we watch, we will see that he uses some of the same tricks time and time again in his attempt to ensnare us. Here are a few of his popular tactics.
Deception - From the Garden until now, he has used deception and cunning ways to try and trick us.
Discouragement - He attempts to ebb away at our hope and our enthusiasm for life.
Doubt - He tries to get us to question what we know is true. He comes against the promises that God has already declared over our lives.
Doggedness - He is relentless in trying to wear us out. He knows when we are weary, fatigued and exhausted, that we are vulnerable.
Do not worry friend. When you are sober-minded and watchful, you see right through the enemy’s schemes. The Holy Spirit has given you eyes to see and ears to hear so you are able to discern when the enemy is on the prowl. And while he is prowling, stand firm in your spiritual armor knowing that with Christ on your side, you are victorious!
PRAY: Lord of Hosts I thank You for going before me in battle. Thank You for teaching me how to suit up in my armor and for giving me insight into the enemy’s devices. I will be sober-minded and watchful as I stand to see the salvation of the Lord. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
REFLECT: What is one tactic that the enemy commonly likes to use against you? How can you proactively prepare yourself for his assault?
