Trusting God More – Beloved Women – December 24, 2018

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. - Psalm 118:8 ESV

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT

I was watering my plants and when I came to the Japanese Maple Tree. I noticed that it had somewhat detached itself from the stake it was connected to. In the beginning stages of growing a tree sometimes a garden stake is attached to the stem to keep it from growing crooked until it is strong enough to stand on its own.

Similarly, God sometimes sends people and things in our lives to help us grow in the way He desires. If we aren't careful, however, they can become a crutch. If we continue to use our crutches, how will we know what we can do on our own?

Crutches can become a handicap when they are used indefinitely. We become dependent on them: believing that we need them to survive. At times, God will remove the things that we have become dependent on in order to cause us to lean and depend on Him. This way we can see just how strong we really are in Him.

PRAY

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the times when you have sent others to help me along the way. I also thank you for the strength you’ve given me when I have been alone. It was in those times that you drew me closer to you and that I found out who I was in you. May I trust you more each day. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

REFLECT

Is there something or someone that has become a crutch in your life? How might the Holy Spirit be leading you to lean and depend on Him instead of what you have been relying on?
