A Steadfast Woman in a Shifting World: The God Who Sees

by Sharon W. Betters

TODAY’S TREASURE

O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it. -Psalm 139:1-6 ESV

Dear Friends,

David calls back to us, from a life of conflict, war, sin, forgiveness, and redemption he will trust in God alone. As I wrapped up last week’s devotionals I knew we needed to see a practical application of what it means to trust in God alone. How do we do that in the mundane moments and more importantly when the earth shifts beneath our feet? Words are easy, actions much harder. As I prayed about the best way to paint a word picture of a woman walking by faith in a long journey of disappointment and unexpected twists and turns, I read a social media post by Tammy Maltby and I knew her message fit David’s exhortation to trust God.

Tammy reached out to me many years ago after reading Treasures of Encouragement. She wrote a “puff” for my book Treasures in Darkness. Though we have never met, our hearts resonate with a love for Jesus and offering our lives as a sacrifice of praise for the encouragement of God’s people. To close out this devotional series, Tammy gave me permission to break down one of the chapters in her book, The God Who Sees You: Look to Him When You Feel Discouraged, Forgotten, or Invisible

Remember what I said about David, that knowing his story makes him a credible witness of God’s faithfulness when the earth shifts beneath our feet. Likewise, Tammy’s life is a viable witness of the peace that comes when we embrace God as our Rock, Rest, Rescue, and Refuge. She brings a storytelling style to Daily Treasure and I’m confident many readers will be encouraged by the way she describes what it means to “wait on God” while in that waiting room of uncertainty, pain, and grief.

Invite friends to join us as we take a look at what it means to know the God Who sees.

Treasured by Him,

Sharon

LIFE-GIVING ENCOURAGEMENT

The devotionals by Tammy Maltby are adapted from the eighth chapter of her book, The God Who Sees You: Look to Him When You Feel Discouraged, Forgotten, or Invisible.  In her book, Tammy digs into the life of Hagar in a way that we can’t in this week’s devotionals. But for a better understanding of the God Who Sees, get a head start on this week’s devotions by reading Hagar’s story in Genesis 16.
