CAST IT OUT
Jaime Wyrtzen Lauze´
“If your eye causes you to stumble, cast it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes, to be cast into hell...” Mark 9:47
Have you ever been confused about the scripture passage that says “if your eyes causes you to stumble, cast it out”? Let's take a look at what that means to us, today.
True Christianity is radical. This passage in particular is a part of one that talks about how wrong it is to make someone else, especially a child, to stumble. Verse 42 said that it would be better to die. When we have something in our life that is making it easier to sin and is leading others in it as well, we need to do some serious housecleaning. I lead both by my words and my actions.
But I think that we often miss a big one. Attitude. We often convey more than we realize by the expressions on our faces. How about our tone? Our inflections? Then there’s what we look at. What we don’t look at. How we spend our time. And it’s the little things that can trip up a child. We are the closest things that our children have to understanding Jesus. Our children know if we are ambivalent to Christianity. They see how we are, or are not involved. And the thing that causes us to stumble can cause our children to stumble.
So if the Internet causes us to stumble, we should get rid of it. If spending is too easy for us using debit or credit cards, go to cash. Drastic times call for drastic measures. Our children's future may be dependent on it. Do we bow to God or some golden calf in our life?
Dear Heavenly Father, Forgive me for being spiritually lethargic. You’ve called me to be alive and radical! Help me not to compare my sins to others. It’s only Your standard that matters. Show me where I’ve been blind. In Jesus Precious Name, Amen.
