WRONG EXPECTATIONS
Jaime Wyrtzen Lauze´
Mark 14

Have you ever felt like God let you down. Have you been angry with Him for not delivering you from trouble at a time when you thought that He should?

Jesus was not what was expected. People were upset that He didn’t take over Jerusalem. They didn’t understand from the prophecies that the messiah would come to suffer and THEN rule. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem, people were hoping that He would finally put an end to the Roman tyranny. The Jews had been enslaved and persecuted ever since they were in Egypt. They were weary.

Have you been there? Have you been worn out from battles in your own life? Maybe it’s looked like God was setting things up to improve. But then the circumstances went in a different direction. We are often disappointed with what God does because we don’t recognize what God is doing. You see, Jesus did come to deliver His people. But not just that, He came to deliver ALL people, past, present, and future. from the worst form of slavery ever. Slavery to sin. And with that deliverance comes the promise that Jesus will conquer death for good.

But most people didn’t understand this. I’ve heard it said that one of the greatest sources of anger is failed expectation. Some of the same people who shouted “hallelujah” when Jesus rode into Jerusalem screamed for His death a few days later. Maybe you are feeling let down by God, especially after it looked like He was about to intervene. But consider this, maybe God is delivering you from something greater through your situation. God’s deliverance in our lives is not a predictable thing.
