Best Happy Ever After

For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear. (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.) Then the angel said to me, 'Write: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!'  Revelation 19:7-9 NIV

Weddings are a lot of work. A lot of fuss goes into all the details. Pinterest ideas fly onto boards. Somewhere between the perfect dress and the flowers and cake, the focus of the event is lost.

And happily ever after comes to only a few.

Seems there isn’t a perfect bride or groom. Those who make it thirty, forty, fifty years overcome many hurdles.

I don’t know the statistic but I bet those who make it to ‘death do us part’ would tell you: ‘Only with God were we able to weather the storms and He kept our love alive’.

But wait, there is a perfect groom. Many are the errors of the bride, but the persistent groom never turns away.

The groom is Jesus and those who trust Him are His bride. He came once to lay down His life. He will come again so our days will be eternal.

Meanwhile, the bride makes herself ready by responding ‘yes’ to Jesus. Righteous acts will clothe us like a stunning wedding dress - not our righteousness, but Christ's.

For only through Him, working through us, are any of our acts without self-motivation.

Our verse for today reminds us: Blessed are those invited - favored, honored, special preparations made for. Pinterest has nothing on the preparations being made for our someday.

For now, we commit to have and to hold; through the good and the bad; ‘til death us do part. It is a chance to try and live out a relationship the way Christ lives for us.

We will flub it up over and over – but we never have to worry about our Jesus' commitment to cherish from this day forward. For He knew us before we came to be and He waits to walk into a jillion sunsets with us.

Have you said yes to the Groom?

Father, Thank You for loving with a perfect love, an unending love. Thank You for clothing us in Jesus’ righteousness and calling us stunning. Whether we have a great marriage here or not, show us how to hold on to Your promise to never leave us or forsake us. And as we go along our days, show us how to help others prepare themselves for eternity. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
