Won’t You Love Your Neighbor?

… to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices. Mark 12:33 NIV
Our world is full of hurt and anger that is easily spread from one person to the next. We get our feelings hurt all too often and rather than risk being hurt again, we distance ourselves from others.
It’s been my experience that once someone hurts me I tend to want to be “done” with them, rather than working out whatever the problem was and moving forward.
Relationships can be one of the greatest joys of life, but they can also be one of the hardest things to maintain.
The fact of the matter is… people will hurt us or disappoint us at some point in our lives.
Some will hurt us more than others, but it’s inevitable that it is going to happen from time to time.
As I am growing in my walk with the Lord, I am learning that no matter who the person may be or what they have done, I am called to forgive them and love them as myself.
This hasn’t been an easy process because there are people that I find more difficult to love than others. There are even those who have hurt me to the core and I feel that they don’t deserve my love.
But, the Lord constantly reminds me that I didn’t deserve His love either.
Reading Mark 12:33, I would say that loving your neighbor is something that God takes seriously.
It’s not always going to be an easy task to complete, but it is what we are called to do.
Take a moment to look at your relationships with the people in your life.
Are you loving your neighbors as yourself? If not, then I challenge you to make this something for which you strive.
Dear Lord, Thank You for loving us when we didn’t deserve it. Sending Your Son to die on the cross for our sins is the greatest example of love that we will ever know. Help us to remember Your love and to share it with others. Amen.
