Falling To Pieces

Café Menu for Wednesday, March 9, 2016

Today’s Special:

The Walls Come Tumbling Down

Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Angela Moran

Main Ingredient:

For God alone my soul waits in silence; From Him comes my salvation.  He alone is my rock and my salvation, My defense and my strong tower; I will not be shaken or disheartened.

Psalm 62:1-2 AMP

Entrée:

It’s that moment when the kids are fighting, your husband is getting on your last nerve, the dogs are whining to be let outside & the doorbell rings.  Company has arrived and it’s time to put on your happy face.  You pause, paste a smile on your face and greet your company as though everything is right with the world.

We’ve all been there.  Life is tough and it’s just easier to pretend that it’s going well rather than admit things are not as they seem.  It would be nice to live in a world where transparency is welcomed, but unfortunately most times it’s easier to respond “fine” or “great” to the questions of “How are you?  How’s the family?”

The truth is that we bottle up our feelings inside and never let them out.  Then, when that proverbial straw comes and breaks the camel’s back, all the pieces of our little Jenga lives come falling down.

Standing back and looking at the pieces, we wonder how long we’ve been feeling this way and how in the world we’re ever going to recover from the mess we’ve made – likely with words said, actions did, and distance we created.  It’s a very lonely place to be.

I wonder if we were just a little more real and vulnerable about our feelings on a regular basis, could we not lessen the feelings of isolation and find comfort being real?  Life is tough and all the things you are feeling are not a surprise to God.  He knows your thoughts, your pain, your fears and your heartaches.

Trust [confidently] in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him. God is a refuge for us.

Psalm 62:8 AMP

Spend some time today just being real with God about how you are feeling.  He is a refuge, a safe place for you to be real and let the “real” side of you show.  There’s no need to pretend, sugar-coat or put on your happy face.  He’s trustworthy and whether it feels like it or not, He’s there.

The Lord is near to the heartbroken…

Psalm 34:18 AMP

Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you…

James 4:8 ESV

Take Out:

Take a moment to realize, God is near.

He loves you and wants to be there to help you sort through your emotions, thoughts and feelings.  All of them.  The good, the bad and the ugly.  He will be your rock, your strength, your tower of refuge and strength.

Don’t try to pick up those pieces alone.  Let Him rebuild you, piece by piece, and bring the healing and restoration that He alone can give.

Dessert:

Jesus, we know You love us and that You are there when we need You.  Forgive us for trying to do life on our own and to handle all that life brings without You.  We need a fresh touch from You today.  We surrender the broken pieces of our lives – our hearts, emotions, and feelings to You.  We trust You to be with us and bring comfort and peace.  In Jesus’ Name.  Amen.
