Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Carolyn Dale Newell
Main Ingredient:
But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”
Luke 10:40 NKJV
Entrée:
Weall have those days when one thing after another goes wrong, and beware to anyone who has the bad timing to be nearby. I think Marthawashaving one of those days. She had nicked herfingerpeeling potatoes, themacaroni had boiled over, and thesweetpotatoes wereburning in theoven. To makeit worse, nobody had let thedog out, and now therewasa messto clean up. She must havereachedher boiling point to askJesus for help.
If Jesus wasin your house, would you askfor help in thekitchen? Only if you werefrustrated.
However,Jesus lovingly rebukedMartha. In verses41‐42,Jesus said,
…you areworriedand troubled about manythings. But one thing is needed, and Maryhas chosen that good part, which will not be takenawayfromher.
Scripture does not giveus Martha’sreaction, but Iimagine she joined Maryatthe feetof Jesus.
Friend, that is exactlywhat weneedto do. Nomatterhow rushed weare, weneeda fewminutes alone with Jesus. That is wherewecan gatherrestraintwhen wewant to scream.
Wherethereis no revelation,thepeople castoff restraint.
Proverbs 29:18
