God as My Chauffeur

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.   For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11: 28-30

I rode alongside a Hummer limousine the other day and it was fabulous to look at.  I couldn’t help but to stare.  I noticed myself trying to peer inside the windows to find out who was in there.  My car slowed as I tried to pace the long vehicle, “maybe they’ll roll down a window and I can get a sneak peak,” was my thought.  “Whoever is riding in that limousine must be important,” was also my thought.   I’ve never ridden in a limousine but I can only guess that it would be well stocked with any kind of beverage I would like.  Not only beverages but maybe some good snacks also.  I imagine long seats and maybe even a place to take a nap.   The lap of luxury is what I envision.   That’s what it’s like riding with God.   Pure heaven on earth.  Not a worry or care in the world as I ride along in God’s hummer, which is Jesus Christ.   The Holy Spirit is my companion in the backseat and teaches me His ways.  I can’t be seen because I am now hidden in Christ.

For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:3 NIV

With God as my driver, I can sightsee along my journey enjoying His majesty and beauty.  There are plenty of bumps and potholes also but with God as my driver, I don’t have to worry about being tossed around in the back because Christ has great shocks and struts.

With God as my driver, I know that the vehicle which is Christ has passed all emission tests, the tires aren’t worn and its gas tank is filled.  Christ Jesus died for me and as his passenger I am fully protected.

“No weapon formed against you will prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn.  This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their righteousness is from ME,” says the Lord. Isaiah 54: 17 NIV

With God as my driver, it’s exciting!  I never know what the next destination will be as I am just along for the ride.  I trust God because He knows the way.  His ways are not my ways and “narrow is the gate” but He knows where to find it!

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord Isaiah 55:8 NKJV.

Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.  Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Matthew 7: 13-14 NIV

I know wherever I end up next, it’s good and it’s for me.  Whether it be a mountain peak or a desert, it’s good because the Lord is my chauffeur.  I know He will never leave me here but keep me in the comfort of His Holy Spirit throughout my journey.  When God is in control, I rest.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 3:16 NIV

With God as my driver, I sleep in the back and am not concerned about the destination because He’s in control and has my destination locked in on His GPS.  Last stop, “Heaven.”

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters. Psalm 23:2 NIV

With God in control, I am not afraid because He cares for me and has plans to prosper me and gives me hope and a future.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

With God in control, nothing else matters.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31 NIV

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Son whom You sent to die just for me.  Thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit also to live inside me.  He is my guide and my teacher.  Without You, I don’t know where I’d be.  Thank You for keeping me safe in Your loving protection and guiding me with Your loving eye while I am on my journey through this life. My only hope and desire is to get to my expected end in You.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
