Hindsight is 20/20
 By Stephanie Davis

Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2 NASB

“Remember Whose you are…”

Oh how my prideful heart would cringe each and every time I read those words granting me permission to go off campus.

Was it not enough that I was attending a Bible college?  Did it not show that I knew full well Who my heart belonged to?  Why must I constantly be reminded that the administrative staff doubted my abilities to make the right choices as a grown Christian woman?  Why did they feel the need to voice this oh-so-obvious-to-me fact every single time I stepped off campus into the real world?

Scripture tells us this…

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 NASB

Be of sober spirit, be on the alert.  Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 NASB

Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Ephesians 6:13 NASB

Today… now 20 years later… I know why they, my spiritual leaders at the time, felt the need.  It’s the same reason I pray that my girls would always remember Who it is they have given their hearts and lives too.

They wanted to open my eyes to the realization that despite my willingness to remember that I belonged to Jesus, Satan’s desire was for me to forget.  They knew this battle was so much more than a matter of will and a determination of spirit.  Their goal was never to offend my proud heart, but to humble it.

Satan is still watching and anxiously awaiting his opportunity to “shine” through the hearts of those committed to Christ.  It’s our choice whether or not he succeeds!

As you go through your day today, I ask you to join me in answering these questions…

  1. Whose are you?

Matthew 6:22-23

  1. Is your choice obvious to others?

Matthew 5:13-16

  1. What do you need to do differently to ensure that your choice is reflected in how you live?

Hebrews 12

Sweet, Gracious and Merciful Father… Thank You for being a God Who does not change.  You are now exactly as You have always been and just as You always will be.  What comfort and peace that brings to my soul!

Oh Lord, how many times I’ve revealed the darkness of the enemy… how many times I’ve chosen to let Satan have full reign in my life because of my circumstances… how many times have I let my fears be bigger than my faith.  Forgive me Lord!

Father with You there is no hindsight, for You have been where I’ve been and You are currently where I long to be… help me to trust Your plan, to trust Your ways and to always long to reveal Your truths.  Fix my eyes on You, Lord… the author and perfecter of our faith.  Guard my heart and give me the strength and wisdom to live a life that proclaims I belong to You.  Will You please whisper these words in my heart any time temptation comes my way… “Remember whose you are…” For it’s in the precious name of Jesus that I pray, amen.
