Today’s Special is: Finding Rest When Life’s Not Going as Planned
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Jamy Whitaker
Main Ingredient:
My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.
– Psalm 73:26 NLT
Entrée:
You are running your race with no thought given to where the other runners are. You have set your pace and are on track for breaking your personal best. Nothing can stop you. The weather is ideal and the scenery is gorgeous; but then the unthinkable happens, the racecourse alters. Suddenly, you are down a stretch of road you have never been on. The clouds are beginning to build. It feels like you cannot possibly continue on.
This happened in my life just a little over a year ago when the doctor said the results came back, and it was cancer. This was not the path I was on. I couldn’t understand why, when everything was going so well, I had to deal with this twist and turn in my life.
Fear crept in and gripped every aspect of my life. I couldn’t enjoy the present because I kept focusing on what I might miss out on in the future. I had hit a wall. If you have ever faced a serious illness or that of a loved one, you know what I am talking about.
I simply got to a point that I knew I couldn’t do it on my own. I needed help – God’s strength and rest. My family stepped in to help around the holidays and with the kids after the surgery. God blessed me with friends around the country that not only sent cards, but also joined together in prayer.
In my case, the surgery took care of the cancer, but my course had forever been altered. You see, fear began to creep back in every time a new symptom arose. I couldn’t seem to break from its chains and live free in the knowledge that God had taken the cancer. I just kept getting pulled back down. I finally had to come to a point where I laid it all at His feet – my illness, my present, my future, everything.
Dear friend, don’t let the twists and turns of life drag you down. Turn to God, who is waiting with open arms, to give you the strength, comfort and peace you need.
Sick or well, God cares for us, and we need to live everyday to the fullest for Him.
Take Out:
If you are in the throws of dealing with a twist or turn in your own life today, I encourage you to take time with God. First, surrender everything to Him, and then write a list of everything you can be thankful for in this particular season of your life.
Dessert:
Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You today tired, weary and broken. You know the stress this illness is having on my life. I can no longer carry this burden alone. I come to You today and lay it all at Your feet. You have promised to be my strength and to give me rest. I am claiming those promises today. Help me to never lose sight of the fact that You are right beside me every step of the way. I do not have to face this alone. Please give me the strength, comfort and peace I so desperately need today and the days to come. I long to rest in Your loving arms. In Your Precious Name I pray, Amen.
