Today’s Special is: Obstacles To Our Gentle Nature
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, AJ Luck
Main Ingredient:
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me. For I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul.
Matthew 11:29 NASB
Entrée:
As a mother of a ten year old, admittedly, I’m not always the best version of myself. I allow the stresses and worries of daily life to often influence my attitude in parenting. Many times, it gets out of hand and carries over into my marriage. My good intentions of being kind and gentle quickly fly out the window.
By the end of the night, when everyone is sound asleep in their beds, I lay awake feeling guilt ridden.
What happened?
Why did I lose my temper so easily?
Why did I get frustrated over something so silly?
In the grand scheme of things, it wasn’t worth it. I realize that instead of going to God and simply talking to Him about my concerns, I internalize them to the point of self-destruction, thus allowing the overflow to spill out into my family and our daily interactions.
If you have found yourself in similar situations, I put this challenge out to you, (as well as myself). Today, try and find a few moments, even if it’s in the shower before your family awakens for the day, to talk to God. Give Him your concerns and worries. Ask Him to help you reflect His gentleness in every area of your life today.
If you find yourself slipping back into anger or frustration, simply whisper under your breath,
Dear Lord, I need You in this moment. Rescue me from me.
Trust Him to be the Gentle Giant in your life instead of worry and anxiety.
Take Out:
Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next. Not two faced. You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only of you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor.
James 3:17-18 MSG
Dessert:
Dear Jesus, thank You for loving me and accepting me as I am. Lord, I need Your help to become more of a gentle person. Help me learn how to respond verses react in a way that would please You. Give me strength where I fall short. Where I am stubborn, make me teachable. Thank You for never giving up on me, and for helping me become the person You know I am meant to be, in You. Amen
