Today’s Special is: Witnessing Through Technology
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Carolyn Dale Newell
Main Ingredient:
…you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
-Acts 1:8b NKJV
Entrée:
Two years ago, I had the technological skills of a caveman. I had used a computer many years before with a magnification program because I am visually impaired. It did not work well for me.
When my vision rapidly declined my rehab counselor urged me to try the computer again, but this time, it would use speech software. At first, I was dead set against it, but it seemed like the best way for me to continue my Bible study without much vision. Before I started my training, God had prompted me to begin writing Christian devotions.
Not only did the computer open doors for me to encourage others through my devotions, but also it quickly became a great way of keeping up with information that was harder to handle on paper with my diminishing sight. I also began using Apple devices with “voice over” features. Technology has changed the lives of blind people. I have apps that identify objects and colors. I have my study Bible and a commentary on my IPad.
Enter Facebook and Twitter. I use them as a ministry. I had felt inadequate in witnessing to others because I don’t get out much, and I can’t see people well enough to start a conversation with a stranger. Now, I can post my devotions, and I can pray for people all over the world. I have met Christians from India and Malaysia, and all over the U.S. God gave me a way to encourage, exhort and witness from my home.
God opened many doors for me through technology.
If God can use me, He can use you too. May I encourage you to seek God’s plan for your life. If you are willing, God will make a way.
Take Out:
Is God calling you to serve? Do not let your fears hold you back. That is what the enemy wants. God is faithful, and He will open doors for you.
Dessert:
Dear God, thank You for the wisdom that You have given people to advance technology, especially for the accessibility features for all disabled people. Continue to help me witness and serve You. To God be the glory! Amen.
