Storms of Life
By Jamy Whitaker
Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Isaiah 43:5a
You have been downsized.
It is cancer.
There has been an accident.
These are all examples of storms. The kind that appear out of nowhere.
Imagine with me that you are floating along through life and even though it is not perfect, it is still smooth sailing. You are sitting back and enjoying the ride. Thinking you have got a handle on everything, when a storm comes out of nowhere and you are bobbing up and down, hanging on for dear life.
The only thing that will keep you and your vessel safe during a storm is a strong anchor. Without it you are at the mercy of the storm, tossed from one wave to the next. The anchor’s purpose is to keep you grounded, connected to something stronger.
This is exactly like our lives. We are told numerous times throughout scripture that when trials comes, not if. In this world, we will face trials, storms if you will. The real question becomes how you will respond in those storms.
Will you try and navigate it on your own, getting tossed around? Or will you anchor yourself in God, drawing close to Him?
I know how easy it is to think hiding is the best answer. It reminds me of when my kids were younger playing hide-and-seek. They would only cover their eyes and then exclaim, you can’t see me. Obviously, hiding didn’t work for them and it doesn’t work for us. Satan tries to deceive us into thinking this is the way to go because he wants us disconnected from the Father.
When you and I draw near to God and anchor our lives in Him, He will guide and protect us through the storms.
The next time a storm suddenly appears in your life, turn to God. He is our anchor in the storms of life.

If you are currently facing a storm, how can I pray for you today?
Lord, we know that there will be storms in this life. I pray that You reveal Yourself to me during these times in a mighty way. I ask that You wrap Your loving arms around me as You guide and protect me. Help me to remember that You are always there for me, no matter what. You are made strong in my weakness. May I continue to draw closer to You in sunshine or rain. In Your Precious Name, Amen.
