Today’s Special is: Brokenhearted Blessing
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Angela Moran
Main Ingredient:
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Psalm 34:8 NIV
Entrée:
It’s cold this time of year and getting out of my nice cozy bed is just not something that I want to do. I want to savor those last few minutes in the warmth before my feet hit the cold floors and my day begins.
It’s not so much the darkness I see outside or the dread of a long day of parenting, homeschooling and life that surrounds me that keeps me from wanting to get out of bed. The reality is that I feel a war brewing inside me. It’s the battle between the heartache of my past & the quiet peace that can be found deep within.
I know Jesus says,
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted
Matthew 5:4 NIV
…but sometimes having a broken heart doesn’t feel like such a blessing. Over the past 18 months, I’ve walked through some of the most difficult times in my life. I’m healing, but I’m still broken.
Every day I have a choice to make.
Do I allow my mind and heart to replay the memories of past hurts, or do I choose to focus on today?
Today, I choose to embrace that peace that comes from living life with Jesus.
One step at a time. One moment at a time.
When the waves of grief, remorse, heartache, and pain sweep over me, I’ll choose to stop and ask Jesus to show me where He is.
I know He’s there, I just can’t find Him sometimes.
Quieting my soul and the remembrances of my past, I see Him.
He’s there, waiting for me to take that next step in our day together.
I know I can’t make it through a day without Him. My heart is too broken, too fragile, and too weak to do it on my own.
I have come to know that taking refuge in Him is a blessing. I am so thankful I don’t have to do life on my own.
Take Out:
Dear sisters, take a moment to choose to live today. Live life with Jesus. I know the pain of a broken heart. I know the pain of rejection, betrayal and abuse.
Can I encourage you with this – it’s only for a season. Hold on to Jesus. Your time to dance and laugh is coming. Maybe it’s today.
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.
Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4 NIV
Dessert:
Sweet Jesus, we need You. Our hearts are weak, yet You are strong. Our emotions are raging, yet You bring peace. In the midst of our sadness, You bring us joy. I pray that Your loving kindness would wash over us today. Revive us with Your mercies that are new every morning. Walk with us each step of our day and allow us to know You are with us. We love You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
