Today’s Special is: Giving God Thanks Today
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Carolyn Dale Newell
Main Ingredient:
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV
Entrée:
I had just returned from the best revival in my life, and now Satan was attacking. His first attempts had failed. A roadblock here, a financial issue there, but I was confident that God’s got this.
Then he targets my relationships, and there are problems with family and friends that I don’t understand. This morning, there was another financial blow.
I know that the road to peace is paved with thankfulness, so I went straight to the problems finding things to be thankful for. Finances were rocky, and some changes would have to occur, but we weren’t broke. Friends may be scarce, but God will never leave me nor forsake me (Heb. 13:5). I am thankful that I have family even if we don’t always get along.
Life is full of trouble, but when we truly trust God, we have no need to worry, no need to fear, and no need to be anxious. We will be thankful, and we will be filled with a peace this world cannot understand. A peace which surrounds us, protecting us from anxiety.
Friend, I don’t know what trouble is in your path today, but I do know that a thankful heart will be kept in perfect peace.
Maybe you lost that loved one who was so dear to you. Perhaps your doctor has given you bad news. You may share in the financial woes and rocky relationships that many of us deal with.
No matter how bad it is, you still have God, and He loves you. That is something to be thankful for!
The key of thanks will unlock the door to peace. What can you thank God for today?
Take Out:
Make every day like Thanksgiving by making a point to show God your gratitude. What are the sources for your anxiety? Examine these “peace robbers”, finding things which you can be thankful for.
Dessert:
Heavenly Father,
We want to thank You for so many things: salvation, family, church… but most of all, we are thankful for You, and that we are Your children. Thank You for the peace which quiets our souls. Thank You for the grace which is always abundant. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
